@IanKay @pointfreeco @mbrandonw @timur_khai @appstorage Yeah, but an obvious part of AppStorage working correctly is receiving updates for external changes, it’s surprising this would be overlooked if Apple intended to support AppStorage + ObservableObject.

@auramagi @pointfreeco @mbrandonw @timur_khai @appstorage This is slightly different though. That note is saying you can use the property wrapper outside the view but it’s still the wrapper as the interface. PF is saying direct UserDefaults mutations _outside_ the wrapper don’t sync correctly

@‌AppStorage from SwiftUI is handy, but also it only works when installed in a view. What if you need to update that state from the result of an API request? Well, that API request must now happen in the view. That's not ideal. Learn more: pointfree.co/episodes/ep273…

@pointfreeco @mbrandonw @timur_khai @appstorage It’s surprising that this doesn’t work, because AppStorage + ObservableObject was specifically noted to be supported some time back, which is AFAIK unique for SwiftUI property wrappers. developer.apple.com/documentation/…

@timur_khai @appstorage It does not fully work. For example, if you were to mutate UserDefaults directly it will not update the value in @‌AppStorage. This will lead to @‌AppStorage being out of sync and can lead to subtle bugs. Here is a small reproduction of the issue: gist.github.com/mbrandonw/3be9…
