@cakeslewds Yeah I came from a family of DIYers so buying a house that needs work was something I wasn’t afraid of. For technically minded people it’s not hard to learn trade work, however most people aren’t like that so they benefit more from a contractor

Coming from my experience in the field and such, this is 100% true. A majority of these small businesses or little companies are there for the profit under the guise of building customer reputation and helping the community. Unironically learning trade skills is easy and I recommend it to anyone, there's a huge difference between learning and taking notes and actually being hands on, but for the most part being skilled in trade-work and DIY things is priceless information for the rest of your life. Being lazy and going "oh, well I can just pay someone to do it" is admitting defeat and undermining yourself and your capabilities to do more and create things, all it takes is patience and effort for the best self-satisfaction of making things work.

@Borthzimsun I have an engineering degree that can be less reliant on computers, so I do have non-industrial choices thankfully. If I didn’t have my degree though I’d totally look into machining or manufacturing

@azztrro How about lathe work? These days, analog lathes and milling machines aren't used as much But you can learn to use CNC machining centers, which are more modern and sophisticated machines. It's an industrial-type job I see you like car mechanics, perhaps it might interest you
