Gambling is everywhere, and it’s completely hijacking our culture.
At first glance, the rise in gambling looks like it’s simply the result of technological advancement — the internet and instant news updates make betting on sports, politics, and world events easier than ever.
But widespread gambling is really a symptom of a much darker reality: whenever a civilization embraces extreme risk as a legitimate way to get rich, it’s a clear sign that society is *desperate.*
We are seeing this exact desperation play out right now, especially among young people who feel that the traditional paths of success have been permanently blocked — and many are turning to risky behaviors like online betting or crypto speculation in lieu of safe career opportunities.
So what happens to a society when its people stop investing in the future and start betting on it instead? To understand where we are headed, we have to look at what happens when power structures become so stifling that vice becomes the only plausible path for the disaffected.
Two thousand years ago, a similar gambling mania exploded across the dying Roman Republic. The powerful figures who took advantage of that desperation ended up plunging civilization into civil war and political chaos….

It's worse than that. They aren't even going to be able to blow it and at least spend that money in this country. Instead it will get extracted by the healthcare industry that will pay foreigners for the labor and it will all get sent out of country. The government will take the rest and spend it on foreign aid or useless foreign adventures.
The largest pile of wealth in history is all going to just disappear.

There is no such thing as a political system that equally benefits everyone while reflecting no one’s values or promoting any one particular group’s way of life.
This fact was used against Western Civilization itself generations ago when the Left began attacking practically every institution in society for being led by straight White men.
And rather than point out the obvious, that this archetype had constructed Western Civilization itself and built all these institutions, and that naturally they would reflect the values of said archetype as a result, we allowed the universalism of Western philosophy and morality to dissolve the West itself.
We granted these people their argument rather than telling them to go to hell. We accepted the flawed premise that all of society had to be reengineered to accommodate the Left’s various hypothetical collection of universal they/thems.
The Left just walked right in through the front door and hijacked everything around them by appealing to their own principles and insisting that an honest application of them necessitated converting them all into tools for the eternal progressive omnicause.
There’s a lesson here to be learned, about both how we got here and how to get out of this mess we now find ourselves in.
