We just had another player return from 7 years of absence. It's always a good day to return to BatMUD.

@foxenflask We've been a digital publisher of our game BatMUD, since of 1990 when we released it to the Internets. However, we love @gamestop <3. A Company that is loved by their Customers, the gaming Industry and other randos just cannot fail; even if one of their business lines would.

The shift from physical to digital games seems to have slowed down / slightly plateaued in the industry overall, but I think it's still pretty concerning as far as being a business unit for $GME goes (and culturally, but I'll leave personal feelings out of it). I've looked at data from several analysts, manufacturers and other market participants and it looks like US physical video game spending has been cut by more than half since 2021 and is now over 85% below its 2008 peak. PC gaming was 99% digital in 2024, and Console gaming was 84% digital in 2024​. PlayStation was 80% digital in Q1 2025, with Sony reporting that physical software now represents only 3% of overall PlayStation revenue​. Xbox Series was 91% digital in the US in 2024​. Nintendo was 53% digital in the US in 2024, though Nintendo maintains stronger physical sales globally with a 66% physical to 34% digital ratio for packaged software in 2024. Everything is moving online, and eventually, I think this trend will continue (in and outside of gaming). I saw a 10TB drive that was a 2.5-inch external SSD from SanDisk. So why am I writing this post? Yes, GameStop is battling to preserve this revenue channel and Retro is definitely back and trendy, and is here to stay. Trends change all the time. But I think long term, GameStop needs to add new revenue channels beyond what they are already doing with Collectibles to reduce this negative exposure.

We don't actually do patches to our game (other than to the game client), but we make live adjustments quite frequently! To see information about the daily/weekly changes, just type "tunes last" in-game to see the latest (from our tunes channel).

@elonmusk Nice, but one thing-- one can't create BatMUD with any of the AI visualization tools. Do you want to know why? It's different for everyone. Pure text-based fantasy gaming. Your own imagination is our graphics engine.

@igdmag @AnthropicDualiT Close to zero traction here too unfortuantely, even with the golden checkmark; but that doesn't mean that we'd be giving up (We've been on the Internet for 35 years already, not much visibility other than word of mouth. Maybe someday...)

@AnthropicDualiT You're not alone on that one. The only posts that gain a lot of traction are the ones about this platform and how bad the visibility is. Changes are on their way, but not until December - if it doesn't make a difference then, well.. it's not worth paying. lol

I Might as well just stop posting on X, after Elon Musk announced they updated it's algorithm, immediately everything dropped on my account, no point in posting things if nobody see's them. Posting more or less doesn't effect anything either. Or... My Content is garbage lol.. I guess both is possible.

Did you know that in-game, you can re-do your character at any point. As a newbie, you can issue "recreate" within first 10d of gametime (if under level 40) and another player can reincarnate(/reanimate) you. Read "help reincarnate" in-game. Experienced players can also be reborn. ("help rebirth")

A player asked less than 10 minutes ago on chat, "What's a typical BatMUD player like?" One of our wizards answered: "That's literally an impossible question. We got everything from sons and daughters of players that started in the 90's, to grandmothers/fathers, to blind or otherwise incapacitated players. Only one thing in common: They like RPGs."

Returning players say that it's like living your good gaming memories again - but with added features (during e.g. some 20 more years of active game development). New players often say that they've never experienced anything quite like it. How would you describe BatMUD?

BatMUD (on average) has 3 players per day creating a character and entering the world of text-based gaming. Players who endure through character creation and newbie tutorial find themselves engulfed in lore or sheer hack'n slash delight - depending on personal preference.
