According to this French poster Rugby League in France died off after its golden era in the 1950s as they stopped being able to dip into the Union talent pool and got kicked off TV for too much violence. That and 5N meant Union had advantage of a better international game.

@DANIELNico47 @T2Rugby In 1971, the FFR proposed a protocol that forbade players from switching codes. League foolishly agreed, and the talent pool gradually dried up. The 1981 TV ban, because of violence and poor behavior on the pitch, was the final nail in the coffin.

@JiffyRugby unless the budgets can be increased there cannot be 4 sides as can’t keep the status quo. unless it’s tired with 2 regions getting less and let them fund themselves. realistically salary budget has to be circa £10m each per year to keep players and have one top quality foriegn

Wales need to keep 4 regions whatever happens to bring the younger players through. If current WRU intend to improve the path way where will these players play. Look at ways to improve the regions not cut them. Everyone work together. There will be a few tough years but If we don’t get this right we could well end up in tier 2 for a long time.

@AndyGoode10 He is the greatest ! Just enjoy when he makes a decision to change strategy during a game if it’s 10m or 30min he’ll take any player off the pitch. Nearly all coaches would wait until 10mins after half time. Took Sia off very early and guess what, it works !

Excited for men’s Olympic road race but 272km with 89 riders (20 of whom only Conti level) & max teams of four does feel about as close to ‘normal’ elite RRs as canoe slalom to coastal rowing* *he says like he’s ever watched a coastal rowing race/regatta/tournament in his life

@thepaulwilliams I’d disagree, it’s not a gateway but just a different type of rugby like league is, ie 4 different types of rugby: union, league, 7s and touch. Someone new to rugby would not link 7s to say #savIre recent tests
