Without question bringing an AR/VR headset into the loop for unmanned vehicle operation has massive ROI implications. researchgate.net/publication/35…

Almost 5 years ago we installed a 180 3D camera and VR app on an MBARI ROV to see if stereo depth perception and 1:1 scale enhances teleoperation performance. What did the research say? That task times with both new and experienced ROV operators were decreased by as much as 50%.

This is one of my favorite academic papers to date on one of the problems Blue Ring Imaging is solving with our “OctoView” application for unmanned vehicle operators and teams.

AR is going to transform the maritime industry.

Doing a complete retrofit of a BlueROV2 for a client to include our 180 3D camera, an Oculus multibeam sonar, Wayfinder DVL, surface power, and an Oculus Quest 2 VR HMD. The sensors and add-ons to this vehicle are nearly 10x more than the ROV itself.
