Doctors/MDs/PhDs of almost every specialization are needed at NASA, especially those in Physical Medicine/Biology! The capacity in which your training applies is up for debate- NASA does need ability for surgery and consult in certain scenarios (on call for situations on station), but you might find more luck with research and development in creating various protocols/ for astronaut health (and in your case, cardiovascular health) and safety on deep space missions (Luna or Mars). You might get to work with vehicle engineers, developing technology to keep their heart working optimally, or monitor long term health of their circulatory system. What supplements should they take? What REM’s for the heart/circulatory system will look when exposed to inevitable radiation in transit to and on the surface of Mars? Research on returning astronauts- do stays on the ISS look similar or a lot different to the Moon? We know effects of microgravity on organs/bones but you might help develops ways to counteract its effects, especially as thy look to support long term, long transit missions. If you have time or are truly interested, you could get some Aerospace Medicine training on top to allow a ton of other opportunities in conjunction.
