Heman Bekele, a 15-year-old Ethiopian-American from Virginia, was named TIME's 2024 Kid of the Year for inventing a skin Cancer-Treating soap (MTS) This affordable soap uses lipid-based nanoparticles to deliver medication, specifically imiquimod, to treat skin cancer. Winner of the 2023 3M Young Scientist Challenge, Bekele is currently collaborating with Johns Hopkins University to refine his invention and aims to create a non-profit for global distribution.
