Misconduct committees populated with academics are costly, inefficient, and vastly less skilled as a decision making apparatus than 1-3 people who know what they're doing.

@james_s_bedford @MishMei But all assessment types have their limitations. There is no task that is perfect. It’s why I and my co-author colleagues of the TEQSA document Assessment Reform for the Age of Artificial Intelligence have advocated for the second of 2 principles

The Guardian’s recent exposé on Australian universities perpetuates a number of misleading stereotypes. Ie. that all genAI use is fundamentally bad, and that all international students are cheating their way through uni. Also, the solution they propose to all this….exams 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

Privacy is important but the unis that do report show that it is possible to do so legally and ethically. And good for you for doing the right thing. I applaud you. But it shdn’t be like this.

The rabid insistence that misconduct cases should never be discussed to protect student privacy means students do think we are complaisant and complicit. All unis should put out regular reports, not keep it quiet.
