How time flies! Little Mwana celebrated her third birthday last week and, as the first wild-born calf of our Umani Unit, Head Keeper Philip and the team pulled out all the stops. First they sang Happy Birthday, then they gave everyone lucerne and nutritious pellets as a birthday breakfast! Join in the celebrations in the comments, then head down memory lane and remember the moment she was born three years ago... just metres away from the Keepers! sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/news/updates/m…

Maxwell has been part of our Nairobi Nursery for longer than most of the elephant orphan herd have been alive. He will never be released – his blindness makes that impossible. But he is protected, and enjoys regular visitors, from the warthogs to wild rhinos that live beyond his gates. Last month, that also included Taroha. He stopped by on the way to the forest, and extended his trunk through the gate to drape it over Max's head. They stood together for a minute – the elephant and the blind rhino – before Taroha ran on to catch up, and Maxwell turned back to his pellets.Meet our orphan herd and find out how you can be a part of their story: sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/orphans/

Olomunyak and Pardamat both arrived at our Nairobi Nursery after losing everything. Now, the forest is their playground! It's how they build confidence, establish friendships, and figure out where they fit in the herd. Not that Pardamat needs any more confidence: our resident troublemaker has that in spades, using it to cause all kinds of mischief. Head-butting Daba. He did that the other day. Pushing Taroha. He did that too. Only peer Olomunyak seems to challenge him – and in time, we'll get to see who comes out on top! Meet Olomunyak, Pardamat and the rest of our orphan herd: sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/orphans

Remembering the moment we first met Imp nearly one month ago... On the morning of 22nd February, Ishanga made a surprise appearance at our Ithumba Reintegration Unit. But the biggest surprise was yet to come – by her side was a tiny baby underfoot! Head Keeper Benjamin and the team had been waiting 22 months to meet tiny Imp, as she has been called, and she was every bit as special as we hoped. As so many orphans have done before her, Ishanga had returned home to share her joy with the human family who raised her! Remind yourself of the story, including Ishanga's own journey from orphan to lion survivor and now, mother: sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/news/updates/i…
