𝐃𝐈𝐑𝐄𝐂𝐓𝐎𝐑 𝐃𝐀𝐕𝐈𝐃 𝐁𝐀𝐑𝐍𝐄𝐒: 𝐀 𝐋𝐈𝐅𝐄 𝐎𝐅 𝐒𝐄𝐑𝐕𝐈𝐂𝐄 After 34 years in law enforcement, including more than 25 years with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Director David Barnes is officially retiring. From an early age, Director Barnes knew failure was never an option. Following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, he joined the Army after high school and later answered the call to serve again by becoming a law enforcement officer. Throughout his career, Director Barnes has been a steady leader, mentor, and trusted voice within our agency. His knowledge, dedication, and commitment to service have helped shape our agency and the deputies who serve alongside him. In this special edition of Never Off Duty, Chief Domenic Paniccia sits down with Director Barnes to reflect on his life of service, the lessons learned along the way, the legacy he leaves behind and of course - his plans for what’s next. Thank you, Director Barnes, for your decades of dedication to our community. Congratulations on a well-earned retirement! 𝐒𝐇𝐎𝐎𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐈𝐍𝐕𝐄𝐒𝐓𝐈𝐆𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐃𝐒 𝐓𝐎 𝐌𝐔𝐑𝐃𝐄𝐑 𝐀𝐑𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐓 The Clay County Sheriff’s Office has arrested 33-year-old Jasmine Brown in connection with a homicide that occurred on March 15, 2026, at approximately 5:15 a.m. in the 400 block of Gano Court. Following an extensive investigation, Clay County Sheriff’s Office detectives determined the incident was domestic in nature. The suspect, Jasmine Brown, and the victim, 30-year-old Kerbisson Sion, were married but living separately at the time of the incident. Brown arrived at the victim’s residence in the early morning hours, where an altercation occurred between the two, resulting in the victim being shot and killed. Investigators believe this was an isolated incident between the two individuals and that there was no threat to the public. With assistance from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, Brown was later located at an apartment complex on Sunbeam Road in Jacksonville. Brown agreed to return to Clay County, where she was later arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder. While there are no outstanding suspects, the investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the Clay County Sheriff’s Office at 904-264-6512 and reference case number 2026-006349. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through the SaferWatch app or by contacting First Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-8477 (TIPS).

𝐃𝐄𝐏𝐔𝐓𝐈𝐄𝐒 𝐓𝐀𝐊𝐄 𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍!🔥 While Clay County Fire Rescue quickly put out Monday’s brush fire in Orange Park, Sheriff Michelle Cook and our deputies were urgently going door-to-door issuing evacuations to keep our community members safe. Deputies even used garden hoses to help protect nearby homes and provided traffic assistance to keep roadways clear for emergency crews. No residents were hurt and there was no structural damage to any of the nearby homes. As always, your safety is ALWAYS our top priority! #CCSOFL #ProudlyServing

🚩 𝐒𝐂𝐀𝐌 𝐀𝐋𝐄𝐑𝐓 🚩 Scammers are pushy, creative and always finding different ways to take your money - don’t let them! Detective Jessica Burns shares the red flags to watch out for in just 30 seconds. 🚩 No law enforcement agency or legitimate business will ever ask you to pay in cryptocurrency or gift cards. 🚩 We will never call you to demand payment for a warrant. If you’re being contacted about a warrant, it will be to turn yourself in, not to make a payment. 🚩 If someone pressures you to stay on the phone or creates a sense of urgency, hang up immediately. If you have any questions about scams or feel like you’ve been a victim of fraud, please call us at 904-264-6512 or submit a SaferWatch tip. #CCSOFL #ProudlyServing #ScamAlert

𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐊𝟗 𝐈𝐠𝐠𝐲! Last week, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office proudly certified its first-ever explosives detection K9 team. Sgt. Maertz and his K9 partner, Iggy, earned their certification through the National Police Canine Association after months of intensive training, during which Iggy was imprinted on more than a dozen explosive odors. In addition to explosives detection, Iggy also serves as a human tracking K9, helping locate missing persons and track suspects. This dual-purpose team enhances safety and operational flexibility for Clay County, and we’re proud to introduce this new resource to our community. #CCSOFL
