The Center for Rural Development awarded Clay County Fiscal Court a $100,000 grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) and the Kentucky Department for Local Government for a broadband expansion project that will serve 147 households in the Brutus community.

2022 Rogers Scholar and Morgan County High School student Shelby Cole organized a toy drive for children in Breathitt, Knott, and Perry counties in the wake of the Eastern Kentucky flood relief efforts. Good job Shelby!

2022 Rogers Scholar and Menifee County High School student Cassandra Gerrish built a Blessing Box to provide another source of food for those in need. The Blessing Box, located outside the doors of the county’s food pantry, is accessible 24/7 and available to everyone.

To raise public awareness about radon, 2022 Rogers Scholar and Monroe County High School student Jade-Madison Turner applied for – and received – an $800 WE KARMA Cares grant. She purchased 80 radon test kits and distributed them to residents of Monroe County.

2022 Rogers Scholar and Russell County High School student Lincoln Helm prepared and served a hot meal to flood victims in Knott County. With the help of family, friends, and community donations, Lincoln was able to feed 300 people.

2022 Rogers Scholar and East Carter High School student Emersyn Elliott is helping teens in her community. She organized a clothing drive and donated personal care items to teenage girls through the Fostering Possibilities Initiative for her community service project.

2022 Rogers Scholar and Somerset Christian School student Gabe Baker donated snacks, water/drinks, and gift cards to be used while families stay with their loved ones at Hospice of Lake Cumberland’s Jean Waddle Care Center at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

2022 Rogers Scholar Regan Messer knows the importance of good oral hygiene – especially in school-aged children. Regan delivered 50 oral health care kits, donated by a local dentist, to Barbourville Independent kindergarten students for her community service project

2022 Rogers Scholar and West Jessamine High School student Talley Price supported veterans at the Thomson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore. She visited the center and gave each veteran a gift to show appreciation for their sacrifice and service.

2022 Rogers Scholar and McCreary Central High School student Tate Sandidge asked for help to restore the landscape at the local golf course, and he got it from the community.

2022 Rogers Scholar Ashlynn Vaught donated items to the Pulaski County Alzheimer’s Center in memory of her great-grandfather, Luke Harness, for her community service project.
