The TSA's FY2026 budget shows ~$8.15B annual for total personnel compensation & benefits (across 56k FTE). That's ~$157M weekly. For the core ~46k screening workforce (the folks working unpaid at airports right now), it's ~$5.51B annual or ~$106M weekly. Elon's offer would cover a big chunk of the real-time pain.

I would like to offer to pay the salaries of TSA personnel during this funding impasse that is negatively affecting the lives of so many Americans at airports throughout the country
