This #InternationalWomensDay, meet Mtendere, a 13-year-old student in Malawi who dreams of becoming a teacher so she can help others learn to read and write. Girls like Mtendere face barriers that have nothing to do with ability and everything to do with circumstance. When girls are given the chance to learn, they help shape stronger futures for their communities.

In Ghana’s mining communities, many children face the difficult choice between school and unsafe work. Through our Reading Ghana Western Region program, CODE and partners are helping change that, reaching 12,500 students across 37 schools. This year, 296 teachers strengthened their literacy instruction skills, classrooms were filled with culturally relevant books, and Grade 5 reading comprehension scores increased by 15% in project schools. On #InternationalMotherLanguageDay, we’re reminded that language is more than communication; it carries culture, strengthens community, and preserves identity across generations. This year’s theme reminds us that youth are not just learners but co-creators and designers of multilingual education — both in the classroom and at home. When mother languages are valued and supported, learning becomes more inclusive, engaging, and empowering.

During #IDW2026, our Board Member Brenda Okorogba shared a timely message: in today’s world, global development will be defined by effectiveness, not intentions. Real impact requires accountability, partnership, and evidence-driven action. Read more: code.ngo/2026/02/06/eff…

As #IDW2026 comes to a close, we’re reminded why CODE’s work matters, and why it matters now. In a world where cooperation and shared norms are under strain, what we build today in classrooms and communities shapes the stability, opportunity, and security of tomorrow. Canada has long been a leader in international education. Stepping back is not neutral, it leaves space for others to set priorities that don’t reflect our values. When we pair principle with pragmatism, education remains one of the strongest tools we have for shared progress. Thank you to all who make this work possible.

This #IDW2026, we’re celebrating the impact of our GALI program in Liberia, where 82% of girls were promoted mid-year, putting them on track to reach an age-appropriate grade in just one school year. When girls are given the tools, support, and encouragement to catch up, they don’t just stay in school; they thrive. #LiteracyMatters #AidWorks

In Tanzania, national data shows that 61% of students aged 10–14 struggle to read a simple text. But in CODE-supported schools, 84% of Grade 3 students can read and comprehend grade-level material, a powerful shift. This #IDW2026, we celebrate what’s possible when educators are supported, classrooms are resourced, and every child is given the chance to become a reader. #AidWorks #LiteracyMatters

This #IDW2026, we're celebrating the real impact of long-term investment in teacher support. In Sierra Leone, the percentage of Grade 2 teachers using best-practice strategies grew from 40% to 89% in just two years through our TLFC program. Behind this success is sustained mentorship, coaching, and classroom-based support, proving that when teachers are empowered, students thrive. A special thanks to @GAC_Corporate and @UniforTheUnion for making TLFC possible. #LiteracyMatters #AidWorks

On #InternationalDayOfEducation, we’re reminded that education is more than a right, it’s the foundation for possibility, progress, and equity. At CODE, we believe every child deserves the chance to learn, grow, and thrive. That belief shines through in the story of Thokozani, a student from Malawi whose journey is featured in our iHeard Project, an initiative promoting youth engagement and elevating girls and young women as agents of change. With support from her community and access to quality education, Thokozani is building the skills and confidence to shape her future. A special thank you to all of our iHeard partners: @fawe_malawi @farmradio @FarmRadioMw @girleffect @ViamoGlobal @MSIchoices @BanjaLaMtsogolo @maikhanda #AidWorks #LiteracyMatters #GlobalEducation #EducationForAll #Malawi #FoundationalLearning

Big news from Liberia. After two years of collaborative effort, 12 new anthologies have been printed and distributed to students at 67 primary schools! Each 80-page book is packed with diverse, curriculum-aligned stories and paired with a teacher’s guide to support strong literacy instruction in the classroom. Developed through our #TLFC project, with the support of @GAC_Corporate and @UniforTheUnion and their Social Justice Fund, this program is helping build a stronger foundation for learning where it matters most. #AidWorks #LiteracyMatters #GlobalEducation #EducationForAll #Liberia #FoundationalLearning

Just before the holidays, 32,338 brand-new books were delivered to 40 primary schools and 4 teacher training colleges across Sierra Leone, and we couldn’t be prouder. A heartfelt thank-you to @UniforTheUnion and their Social Justice Fund for the generous support, helping mark their 10th anniversary with impact that will last for generations. These 12 anthologies, developed through CODE’s TLFC project with our amazing partner TALLE, are full of rich, diverse, curriculum-aligned stories written to inspire young readers and support foundational literacy. Each comes with a teacher’s guide to help bring the stories to life in the classroom. #AidWorks #EducationForAll #LiteracyMatters
