🚗🚙 The next @Conservatives government will ditch Labour Zero-Emission Vehicle mandate and the ban on petrol & diesel cars 🚙🚗 I’m glad that the policy we’ve been doing detailed work on for months is now in the public domain. We make fantastic electric, hybrid, petrol and diesel cars in 🇬🇧 But it is also clear that, although growing, take up of electric isn’t what businesses planned for or anywhere near hitting Labour’s mad targets. This has obviously been made worse by the recent changes to vehicle tax in the budget and the Mayor of London’s decision to charge electric cars £18/day from the end of the year. So, the choice is: stick with @UKLabour’s crazy 2030 target that will cost taxpayers a fortune and cripple 🇬🇧 motor manufacturing OR change course. The @Conservatives team have made our decision. Some of the key points: 🗣️🗣️ People should be able to decide which type of car is right for them. They shouldn’t be forced to choose one only tech by the Government especially when we don’t know where technology will take us in decades to come ⚡️🚐🚙 We’ll tear up the new ZEV mandate, which Labour brought in last year, which would have meant that 80% of cars & 70% of vans sold by 2030 would have to be electric 🚗🚐🚙 Labour currently plan to fine UK car manufacturers up to £15,000 per petrol/diesel car/van sold over the % target OR they’d have had to buy ‘credits’ from electric only manufacturers like China’s BYD essentially subsidising Chinese production at the cost of 🇬🇧 manufacturing 🧑‍🔬🔬👩‍🔬 We’ll keep the research funding for future tech and ensure it’s focused on: Hydrogen, Solid State Batteries, new fuels and new technology 🚗🚐🚛 We’ll also scrap the hard deadline on no new non zero emission cars, vans and medium sized lorries at all by 2035 and no large lorries by 2040.
