I have been told so many times that I speak too highly of you and your work. I am very glad some of those people will see it. A Gold Fish has no hiding place. Keep winning, Sir.

@mikeachimugu01 @TaxDoctorNG The NCAA has intensified enforcement of airline compliance with Nig. CARs 2023 Part 19, with notable improvements especially in the handling of delayed baggage. As explained by @mikeachimugu01 delayed baggage may be delivered to passenger’s requested location, subject to customs-

The fact that you don't know that this happens already and has been enforced for years is a problem. That you and @TaxDoctorNG choose insults and vile behaviour speaks more about your ignorance and arrogance than the NCAA. You overrate the potency of your insults. I don't understand how any educated Nigerian thinks that attacking an ignorance that is their own fault means anything. Keep feeling entitled to infantile insults because you are too close-minded to see what is in front of you. What you are demanding already exists. The fact that you don't know this, and I point you to the right direction cannot be the reason for these vile attacks, but, go on.
kholin@alsorna_

@TaxDoctorNG @mikeachimugu01 Very silly. He seats in his office mouthing off while these airlines treat Nigerians like trash. Returning the luggage to the customer's address isn't even enough, they should be liable for any additional expense the customer incurs as a result of the missing luggage.

MUST KNOW: Sometimes when you notice that your bag was 'tampered with,' it is not always about thieves. Especially when you notice that nothing was stolen from your luggage. Airport security in airports across the world may open your bag for security checks without your presence. In some airports, they leave a card in your luggage to inform you that they opened your bag. Some would leave no such message. Even when my bag was wrapped in polythene, it has been opened a few times in the past. My first experience, I was scared. "Why would they be brazen to unwrap my bag and open it at such a renowned airport (Montreal)?" It was my colleague who educated me about the protocol before I started to observe it more. I am putting this out here so that passengers may understand the difference between such security protocols and actual pilfering. PS: wrapping your bag in polythene is one of the ways to secure your luggage. I recommend.

Escaped death? For an air return due technical that landed normally and safely without incident? There was no incursion or excursion. No crash landing. Majority of the passengers finally departed while the remaining few, accommodated in hotels, are being reprotected on other airlines.

BREAKING: No fewer than 248 passengers narrowly escaped death on Friday night after a Qatar Airways aircraft developed a technical fault mid-air and was forced to make an emergency landing at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

I sat down with the Chairman of United Nigeria Airline some days ago to discuss some of the current operations of the airline. Turns out that he has instructed his personnel to ensure to pay passenger ticket refunds within TWO days (less than the 14 days allowed by the regulations). He has also devolved power of authority to approve and pay refunds such that it does not require the most senior levels of management to approve refunds. I was impressed by the processes put in place by the airline to resolve one of the more recurrent issues in air travel. Looking forward to seeing the relevant personnel of United Nigeria align with their Chairman's vision.

Yesterday, I had to make a u-turn while heading to my barber's, on receiving reports of a valid threat of extreme violence from Saudi Airlines' Kano-bound passengers who were stranded in Abuja due bad weather in Kano. Some other airlines had also diverted to Abuja for the same reason. I stood amidst over 200 angry passengers, pacifying, reprimanding, and resolving. This is the most adrenaline-rushing part of my job. It requires tact, firmness, wisdom, and team work. But it is risky. Some passengers are extremely violent. A huge, hulk-like, and highly vexed passenger threatened to beat me up yesterday. I looked at him. Initially, I was angry. But I saw the worry in his eyes and decided to handle him differently. We became best friends and he has invited me to his Lagos residence. I will not go, sha. I must acknowledge the support of our Honourable Minister, Festus Keyamo SAN, who insisted that the rights of the passengers be prioritised. He continued to ask for updates on the welfare of passengers late into the night. I am proud of the efforts put in by my DGCA, Capt. Chris Najomo over this matter. To protect the rights of Nigerian passengers, he made a number of critical decisions that established the dignity of Nigerian passengers. I must also thank Ifueko Abdulmalik for her role in resolving this saga. She kept communications with the Saudi side open. How do you leave 401 passengers stranded and say you'd return to your country without having made alternative arrangements for their movements to final destination? While acknowledging the fact that it was tough for the airline as they have no operational base in Abuja, the entire saga could have been handled more professionally. I met with the Saudi ambassador to Nigeria and made it clear that the airline cannot operate with disregard for the consumer protection regulations. Much later last night, we were able to conclude arrangements with UMZA to fly the stranded passengers to Kano via three successive flights. My team and I waited through it all. I acknowledge also, the stoic efforts put in by the FAAN Regional General-Manager of the airport. He stood with me through the entire ordeal and showed courage in the face of the intimidation. Umza airlifted the passengers thus: The first Umza aircraft departed ABV for Kano with a total of 74+4 passengers on board. The second Umza aircraft also departed ABV for Kano with a total of 73+4 passengers on board. The third and final Umza aircraft departed with 34 passengers on board. In total, 181 + 8 passengers were airlifted to Kano. Saudi has made a commitment to compensate the affected passengers. This brings to an end, a disruption of almost 48 hours that began as force majeure, transitioned to poor passenger handling, and ended with a great display of effective team work from the Minister, to the DGCA, and all the way down to our hardworking CPOs. In closing, I will say this. Passengers have a responsibility to understand the situations that are beyond the control of airlines. We must minimize the resort to violence inside aircraft and airport terminals this year.

I would like to encourage air travellers to learn to use alternative airlines if dissatisfied with the services of a particular airline. Not just for domestic flights, but especially for international flights where a lot of alternatives exists. If Royal Air Maroc is unable to serve you well, there are other gateway destinations. Air Algeria recently began operations in Nigeria and offers a faster transit to Europe. Qatar Airways flies several destinations. Lufthansa. KLM. Air France. Ethiopian. Rwand Air. Turkish. The reason competition exists is to ensure that passengers enjoy the power of choice. Stop going back to an airline you complain about eternally. Makes no sense. It does not even help to force them to improve the quality of service that they offer. Airlines are big on data and they can tell when most of their customers are repeat passengers. If you require better service, simply try options. It is not possible that all airlines operate at the same level, no matter how passionately you complain. Passengers must also understand that while they are the reason the industry exists in the way that it does, all airlines are also business entities established on different business models. For some, it is cheaper airfares. For others, high airfares, but better travel experience (more modern aircraft, better food, wifi, in-flight entertainment, comfort, etc). Some airlines would give you more baggage allowance while some would charge low fares but you must pay for every kilogram of baggage. The first time I booked a flight on Ryan Air, I had to pay for my luggage online, and I was only allowed a single bag. I did not like their conditions of carriage, but they offered the only nonstop flight to my destination, and I chose a fast arrival over everything else. That flight got delayed and I did not make it anymore. But I made a mental note about the airline. Passengers can boycott an airline. It is a responsibility too. To keep patronising one airline and complain endlessly about the quality of service is like a lover repeatedly going back to their abuser. While the NCAA will continue to protect the rights of passengers, people need to understand how their choices can also effect the improvements that they desire. Try options in 2026.
