@ObviousElk @rdassaly They are in fact written to be understood phonetically, it's just not English. The pronunciation is pretty easy to learn for many indigenous languages here as they use similar spelling rules. If we can learn to say Saoirse, Schuyler, and Joaquin we can learn to say stəywəte:n̓

@anclryScyllarus @rdassaly i mean, i agree that's for sure part of it but i still think this behavior is super racist. it's one thing to acknowledge that the orthography isn't intuitive as a english speaker, its another thing to act like its preposterous to be expected to learn to say it
