Russia and Europe face an extremely cold winter that occurs once every 20 years, according to "Gazprom"
▪️This forecast was made by Gazprom's head Miller: temperatures down to -25°C are expected across the entire European part of Russia, from the Murmansk region to the Krasnodar territory.
➖"We know that once every 10 years there is a cold winter, and once every 20 years there is an abnormally cold winter," Miller said, suggesting that based on 20-year cycles, an abnormally cold winter should be expected soon.
▪️At the same time, meteorologists have not yet issued such forecasts, but long-term synoptic models only provide probabilistic assessments, and the final nature of the winter will be determined by atmospheric and oceanic processes in the coming weeks.
▪️The Hydrometeorological Center does note an earlier arrival of cold in Russia: by October 9, about 60% of the country's territory was already covered with snow.
▪️These indicators are atypical for early October and may indicate that cold weather will set in earlier than usual, said the scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center, R. Vilfand.
