I was trying to think of something sparky to say about this but it’s just very sad. My generation came of age in a Europe where most of us could travel freely, live and work where we wanted. That expansive idea of Europe is fading now. Our children’s lives will be very different.

This is so clumsily worded that I have to wonder if it was checked by someone with an adequate grasp of English before sending. Did she mean to write "by means of treaty amendment"? That's a very different thing and it matters, because this is an official letter from a minister.
