Any political system that requires the 'right' people to be in charge is not a good political system.

@EndWokeness zero taxes zero regulations means white people get to be crooks and control everything. same as it ever was. this is why equity is needed.

Liberals must always oppose dictatorships and fascist regimes, even when we disagree with how our own government is handling them.

Big Tech wants to build AI data centers across this country – using your water, your power grid, and your tax dollars – with zero accountability for how that technology is used against you. I introduced the AI Civil Rights Act because the people building these systems should have to answer to the people affected by them. No algorithm, no matter how smart it may be, is above the law – period.

@micah_erfan Or do people think Democrats are just going to forgive their debt?

@HAmorata Meanwhile, taxpayers are going to funnel out $16 trillion over the next 10 years just to pay for the interest on the debt. No new services. No new benefits. Just paying the interest on the debt.

The United States government is currently $39 TRILLION dollars in debt. You would need 175 Jeff Bezos's to pay it off. There are 989 billionaires in the US. They have a combined worth of a mere $8.4 trillion. The United States government could "tax" everything those people own and not have enough to cover a quarter of what it owes. How about y'all get your debt under control before you try to convince us of the good you could do by just stealing a little more?
Elizabeth Warren@SenWarren

Jeff Bezos has $222 billion. If he paid my wealth tax this year, we could fund insulin in America for everyone who needs it plus free school lunch for every kid in Texas—and have plenty of money left over. And Bezos would still have $215 billion dollars to spare.

@travis1567 @MorePerfectUS So at best, assuming you could take 100% of their wealth, you would maybe fund the government for a year. And then you wouldn't have any more billionaires to tax. And that's just paying for the yearly budget. Not even touching the debt.

@travis1567 @MorePerfectUS Again, the federal government spent $7 trillion last year. Billionaires own $8 trillion in wealth -- mostly illiquid assets that would lose value as soon as you started selling them. $16 trillion is just what we're going to pay in interest over the next decade. Interest.

@Malinowski But probably would never be used to pay off the debt for which we will pay $16 trillion in interest alone over just the next ten years.

I've received reports of these new “speed cameras” popping up across Maryland. Like Flock, they’re privately owned. Unlike Flock, these likely contain *pounds of copper*… which I'd never suggest anyone take advantage of. Neighbors might not mind, though.

@BladeoftheS The federal government spent $7 trillion just last year. Billionaires in the US own around $8 trillion. And taxpayers are going to pay $16 trillion over the next 10 years on just interest payments on our debt. Cute slogans though.

Pensions are affordable. Benefits are affordable. Paying decent wages is affordable. Universal Healthcare is affordable. Billionaires aren't affordable.

@travis1567 @MorePerfectUS The federal government spent $7 trillion last year. Billionaires own around $8 trillion. Over the next ten years, we taxpayers will be squeezed for $16 trillion just to cover debt interest payments. Hope this helps you reevaluate things.

@esjesjesj The rich was the government in that story. The riches were taxes. Robinhood stole tax dollars from the government and gave them back to the people. You think that the government is Robinhood. 🤦

We’re lucky Pierre Poilievre isn’t Prime Minister. And let me be very clear what he’s saying about Singapore is completely backwards. Singapore’s success didn’t come from “less government.” It came from: • Heavy regulation • Government-controlled housing • Strict enforcement of rules Everything Conservatives in Canada fight against. So which is it? Because you don’t get to pretend you want Singapore while opposing everything that makes it work.
