Does the economy need to collapse first before everyone realizes modern universities/colleges have evolved into a scam?? They promise to prepare millions of young people for employment, then deliver this - 1.2M grads competing for just 17k roles in the UK...this year alone... If you're planning on becoming another one of these grads, the only guarantee you'll find after graduating is a lower chance of employment.

I'll make this clear: Spend 3 years of your life with them, and you'll join this number. Spend 1 year of your life with me, and you'll be in data. Their time is up, you can sink with them, or sail with us. Pick a choice you're happy to live with for the next decade coming. But choose fast.

𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟱: 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 - 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗣𝗟𝗘𝗧𝗘. Yesterday I planned. Today I built. Built my first ETL pipeline using Python and SQL to pull live Premier League data from a REST API. And it works. 🧵 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 ETL Pipeline: REST API → Python → SQL Database Used [football-data.org](football-data.org) API to pull current Premier League standings. Parsed the JSON response in Python. Loaded it into my SQL Server database. Live. Premier. League. Standings. In my own database. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗜 𝗗𝗶𝗱 Set up my environment using Git Bash. Created .env file to keep sensitive credentials secure. Built main.py for the ETL logic. Set up .gitignore to protect sensitive data. Used a test notebook to validate everything worked. Connected to the API. Extracted data. Transformed it. Loaded it into SQL. The full cycle. Start to finish. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁 At the end, I pulled the current 2024-25 Premier League standings into my database. 20 teams. All their stats. Goals, points, position - everything. Queried it from SQL. Saw the data. It worked. This is my first real data engineering project. And it combines two things I love - data and football. 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗜𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 This isn’t a tutorial project. This is real data engineering. Real API. Real data. Real database. Real pipeline. I can now: - Extract data from any REST API - Transform JSON into usable formats - Load data into SQL databases - Automate the entire process This is what data engineering looks like in practice. And I just did it. 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆 Stop waiting for the perfect project. Build something you care about. Secure your credentials. Always use .env files. Test everything before committing. Notebooks save time. When your project combines passion with learning, motivation becomes easy. 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟱 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗲. Cheers to more growth. Cheers to building. What was your first real project?
