My 2 cents about if watching video games makes you a fan is that it’s like being a fan of a painting but you only read the plaque and never looked at the art. Like yeah, you know the lore, history, and impact but you rob yourself of your own experience (the most fun part)

@rayenbenmalek03 @I__HATE_SOCCER I agree watching is accessible than owning but if your franchise consistently gets low entrants at evo, has dogshit retention, cuts development after a year, and reboots itself again. I am going to doubt if people actually like mk or if they like the idea of it

I personally call it “Honeymoon Fandoms”. It’s understandable that it’s a lot of fun but it gets to a point where one can get real annoying so I’m usually happy when things die down and the real fans show that they truly love something.

It's because fandom is sometimes the ONLY social interaction for people. So if a fandom "dies" (e.g. the show ends, the game is done) people can't just enjoy what they have because their friends moved onto the next thing. They don't actually LIKE the IP.
