Another gigantic protest in HK today. Do you head the people sing? Singing a song of angry men.

We wrote this 2 years ago, becoming even more relevant today. China's trilemma in Hong Kong -- paradoxically, protests are absolutely critical to the stability of Hong Kong’s political equilibrium. blogs.lse.ac.uk/management/201…

1.03 million (1 out of 7) people took to the street in Hong Kong today to protect its autonomy. Largest protest turnout since 1989! Collective actions are the most spectacular scene that demonstrates the power of mankind.

Stunning image of the protest in #HongKong today (just posted on @AppleDaily_HK's Instagram account.) Many we spoke to said it was the first time they joined a protest & felt a proposed extradition law would so fundamentally alter the city's freedoms that they couldn't sit back.

#hongkongers are making history today. All lanes of the Hennessy Road - including those which police refused to open before - are flooded by protesters against the #extraditionbill @SCMPNews

After 30 years, a former People’s Liberation Army journalist who saw the Tiananmen massacre is speaking out: "Everyone who took part must speak up about what they know happened. That’s our duty to the dead, the survivors and the children of the future.” nyti.ms/2I23i1L

@ryancbriggs @david_yang gave a very convincing answer to this concern at his presentation at the #ASSA meetings. David, do you want to repeat (I am afraid to get your precise argument wrong)?

@DSchindlerEcon @ryancbriggs (1) we provide truthful info so people could make better calibrated decisions; and (2) we timed the experiment so that we only elicit protest outcomes when it was clear that there was no repercussion from protesting and govt was not cracking down

The earth’s economic centre of gravity took nearly 2000 years to move to Europe. It is just taking 50 years to go back to Asia.

Cool piece @vox_dev on media bias. "Increasing competition in newspaper mkt has meant that propaganda through the mktplace has become less effective." In response Chinese govt switched to social media for propaganda (more concentrated & directly regulated) voxdev.org/topic/institut…
