Failing to call this a war crime is pure excuse-making. Trump isn't threatening strikes on military infrastructure; he is threatening "stone ages", destroying ALL bridges, and destroying ALL power plants, plus water desalination plans. This is the definition of a war crime.

Calling this a "war crime" is pure fearmongering. Under ICRC Rule 10, strikes on infrastructure used for military purposes are permitted. Civilians are NOT the target. Grifters just bank on their audience being too stupid to notice.

The deliberate targeting of electrical infrastructure is considered a war crime according to United States’ Law of Armed Conflict (LOAC) when it involves civilian objects and disregards the principles of distinction or proportionality in the attack. All service members are legally obligated to prevent the commission of war crimes. In accordance with United States legal principles, adherence to orders is not recognized as a defense for perpetrating war crimes, hence the provision of pertinent training during the GWOT.

Iran is likely to deploy human shields to its bridges and power plants tonight. The use of civilians as human shields is banned under the Geneva Conventions (article 51).

@davidprush @barnes_law I did that too when I was AF. When I went to the IC I did more. My issue is that people are out here telling troops to not obey orders and essentially injecting themselves into the chain of command. Some doing so by threat and doing it with no understanding of process. Shameful.

That's the exception not the rule. It is without question a war crime to annihilate a country's vital infrastructure.
I was not engaged in target acquisition or the determination of target legitimacy; however, I underwent annual training in the Law of Armed Conflict (LOAC) during my service in the Air Force, as all service members are obligated to prevent the commission of war crimes. In accordance with United States legal principles, adherence to orders is not recognized as a defense for perpetrating war crimes, hence the provision of pertinent training.
Sedition is a matter for legal professionals such as Barnes. It is my impression that the First Amendment imposes a high standard for prosecution.

Notwithstanding, the legitimacy of dual-use infrastructure is questionable when the collateral damage is disproportionately high compared to the military gains.

Federal United States code, as legislated by Congress, establishes the parameters for LOAC.
Federal statutes remain in effect, irrespective of any perceived war crimes committed by an adversary.

Are the President and military obligated to adhere to legislation enacted by Congress?
One should recognize that through treaty ratification, the United States Congress has elevated international law to the status of federal law.
Indeed, while the United States does, to a degree, determine which international laws it adheres to, the President is nonetheless constrained from disregarding legislation passed by Congress. To disregard the protective provisions of the Law of Armed Conflict for service members is indicative of a lack of understanding.
