@bonifacio_chris So like that, BUT you need to do: const thing = await fetchThing() So the issue is the effect cleanup function runs before fetchThing completes meaning the subscription isn't cleaned up in dev mode when React runs hooks twice

@dbanksDesign should've been a function being returned from useEffect but you get the point

Async and subscriptions together in React is not fun
