The legend of Korra did not retcon anything, instead it dived deeper into the lore. The lion turtles gave humans bending ability. Then humans learnt how to bend from the original benders. Wan literally learnt firebending from the dragons. How hard is it to understand?

@mitchelgoodluck Korra is still the worst. But the real crime was how the Showrunners retconned how Bending was learned. Originally people picked up by looking at animals or nature (Earth was from watching Badgermoles, Water was from the Tides). Now it's spirit turtle magic.
