🇨🇻 Sidny Lopes Carbal's journey over the last 18 months is absolutely insane. In 2024, he was playing regional football for Rot-Weiß Erfurt in Germany before signing for Germany third division side Viktoria Köln. In 2025, after becoming a key part of the club's newfound defensive stability he signed for CF Estrela Amadora in Portugal's Primeira Liga. Just 6 months later, after registering 6 goals and 4 assists, Benfica snapped him up and he joined on 1st January of this year - a World Cup season. And his rise couldn't have gone much better. On his first start for Benfica, he scored against his former club Estrela Amadora and walked away with the Man of the Match award. Then everything unravelled. After the incident in which Gianluca Prestianni racially abused Vinícius Jr., Carbal asked Vinícius for his shirt after the game. From that moment on, he was frozen out by Benfica and before this World Cup, he was sold to Trabzonspor in a £6M move. Now, on the biggest stage in football, he's announced himself to the world. Carbal scored his country's sensational equaliser against the reigning world champions Argentina to make it 2-2 - a goal that will be talked about for years and one that could genuinely end up being the goal of the 2026 World Cup. From Germany's third tier to one of football's biggest moments in just 18 months. What a story.

Reporter: “Vozinha, after the final whistle you walked over to Lionel Messi. What did you say to each other?” Vozinha: “I went over to him and, before I could even say much, he gave me a hug and said, ‘Well done. You’re a very good goalkeeper. Your people should be proud of you.’ That meant a lot coming from someone like Leo.” “I thanked him and said, ‘Thanks, Leo. You’re the best.’ Then I asked if I could have his shirt, and he smiled and told me, ‘Of course. I’ll give it to you in the tunnel.’ Moments like that stay with you forever.” ❤️🇨🇻🇦🇷

I remember covering CONCACAF matches at Swangard between Canada and countries like Honduras ,Costa Rica and EL Salvador. 5000 people would show up,4000 pulling for the Central American side. I love how far Canadian soccer has come—on the pitch and in the stands.Great job boys.

@TFC5ever Hate to say it but really think it’s on the attacking personnel We are the team that produces among the most chances at this World Cup & this has never been an issue under Jesse Marsch numbers-wise We just crash out on the final third constantly it’s frustrating

@dilcps John Herdman isn't an offensive tactician and neither is Marsch, so Idk if I'd put it down to better attackers. Our goal scoring is down with Marsch in charge, we haven't improved, but we have better players now.

As for the CanMNT attack question: That’s legit been a weekly narrative for years It’s a tiresome convo to have because it’s too obvious that Canada just needs better attackers Difference is that more eyes are seeing how much Canada lack finishing

Scrolling through my tl & I really think I’m right in not overly getting invested in “what went wrong” Because there’s a lot of misdirected anger being thrown just for the sake of getting angry Particularly towards Alphonso Davies… injuries happen in sports get over it
