Never forget, a 13-year study found that protected bike-lanes led to a drastic decline in fatalities for all road users. ALL ROAD USERS. And painted bike-lanes? No safety improvement at all. For sharrows, it’s safer to NOT have them. Via @StreetsblogUSA usa.streetsblog.org/2019/05/29/pro…

British people: Americans are so stupid. Everyone can see why they have so much gun violence, why don’t they do something about it? Also British people: The number of deaths on the road is a shocking mystery. The causes of it cannot possibly be understood.

A woman has died after being struck by a car in North Lanarkshire. The 57-year-old was on Brambling Road in Coatbridge around 5.20pm yesterday evening when she was struck by a black Vauxhall Corsa. The woman was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where she later died. Police are investigating the incident, appealing for anyone with information that could assist to get in touch.

Amsterdam’s plan to remove 11,200 parking spaces from its streets by the end of 2025 is even more inspiring when we realize the kind of people-places that are possible where cars used to be. Example — #Amsterdam’s Elandsgracht between 2014 & 2019, via @schlijper’s great pics.

@TheQuinReaper @Huwipulotu This is a tweet from someone who has never watched and has no idea about the game of rugby. Marcus is a good player. But he is nowhere near Finn’s level.

Thank you @UofGlasgow for bestowing upon my mum the honorary degree of doctor of the University of Glasgow. This has brought her so much joy in the final beats of her life. Janey is so honoured, and I am so immensely proud of her. Congratulations Doctor Godley. Ashley Storrie

The 2nd most populous city in Italy hosted a pilot project using e-cargo bikes instead of vans, and found the companies reduced delivery times 23% and reduced operating costs 40%. Not bad, huh.

Remember, when Barcelona eliminated 3 lanes of vehicle traffic & converted this street into a 4.7km green pedestrian corridor in the heart of the Eixample grid, businesses sued, & they actually won. But by then businesses had decided they actually like it. citylabbcn.org/the-legal-atta…

Remember, Paris wasn’t “always this way.” It wasn’t even this way in late 2019 when I was last there. Just a few years ago, #Paris was choking in car traffic much more. This is new. This is leadership. Cities are a result of choices. HT @Khayat_Fouad

Drawing inspiration from Amsterdam and Utrecht, Paris has opened a state-of-the-art 1,200-bike parking facility at Gare du Nord. A key link in a seamless and scalable intermodal system, it provides an elegant storage solution for local, regional and (inter)national passengers. 🧵
