@JChengWSJ @joy_shuxian_luo Was China ever eager to rein in its troublesome ally? It's hard for me to find an example, but that's probably because I'm no expert. Do you think this is a realistic assessment, or is she painting the good old days with rose-colored glasses?

@LouiChristopher The only way to measure this policy is: Does it win votes. It's a political measure, not a housing market reform.

@acri_uts @ZhangMarina @ZhangMarina and @acri_uts: may I ask, do workers in China's tech industry get the same opportunity to get filthy rich if their company succeeds as in Silicon Valley, through share options, etc.? it seems top talent will go where they can become the next "Facebook Millionaire."

The K visa will help the PRC in the global race for talent and boost its global university rankings but “concerns over China’s intellectual property protection, censorship and geopolitical tensions could blunt its appeal among talent from advanced democracies” - @ZhangMarina

@PeteWargent This is very interesting because I often have wondered if those NDIS properties were good investments. Buyer beware, as always.

@JChengWSJ @Lingling_Wei Great story @JChengWSJ . I pity the poor U.S.-China Business Council, stuck in the middle. There the poor guy sitting in the middle seat on the airliner, with a husband on one side and a wife on the other, and an argument going on over his head.

@NassimKhadem Nassim - it will be the nursing homes where we spend the last 5 years of our lives and 80% of our savings, eating pureed food and staring vacantly at the TV! They talk about the generational wealth transfer, but I think it's all really going to nursing homes.

@paulmidler I enjoyed your book "Poorly Made in China," but I wondered if it might be out of date now. Have you written anything more recently that looks at the China manufacturing sector and its relation to the rest of the world with a similar clarity of insight?

NJ Transit and union leaders representing the railroad’s locomotive engineers reached a tentative wage deal Sunday, ending a strike that started Friday. This was the first NJ Transit strike in 42 years. wsj.com/business/nj-tr… @WSJ

@JayNWay1 @LouiChristopher Hong Kong shell companies can't buy existing property in Chatswood or anywhere else without first getting scrutinised by the FIRB. If Louis is getting this hassle, imagine how much more an overseas person gets.

Just for the record, I'm not keeping lumps of cash at home. Not right now, anyway! But we will do as we please, when we please and without having to provide reason. #manwithcash

What I have just gone through this morning with CBA is disgusting. Absolute despicable, Orwelian stuff. Driven by Austrac. austrac.gov.au Just out of the blue, the bank sent me the enclosed email and demanded to know: 1) How I have built up my wealth? 2) Why have I made cash withdrawals? 3) If I am holding cash at home, why? 4) Why did I make certain transactions to third parties. I called the bank and it was true. They were going to suspend all my accounts this week if I didnt tell them the answers to the above questions. Said Austrac gave them the authority to do that.

@cmkusher I don't love pollies, but here they are taking the blame that rightfully belongs to the voters. Remember what happened when Labor tried to reform franking credits in 2019? They got hammered. That was tiny compared to the firestorm this would create.

Leaders debate question, How will housing be more affordable in 5 or 10 years? Neither actually have an answer whereby they explain prices will be lower.

@cmkusher In all seriousness, @cmkusher. No one could win an election by promising to push house prices down. Imagine the attack ads skewering any pol who promises to cut every homeowner's net worth by $220k. That's 20% of the $1.1m median dwelling price as per PropTrac 2 wks ago.

Not sure if you feel the same way(?) but I am finding this year’s election particularly uninspiring. Really quite surprised the minor parties are not polling better.

@karpathy What if I'm a creator who wants to retain control of what I create and only give access to paying consumers? I don't want to be cannibalized like Studio Ghibli. Do I simply give people access to a local LLM with my .md file? What would be the best protocol?

It's 2025 and most content is still written for humans instead of LLMs. 99.9% of attention is about to be LLM attention, not human attention. E.g. 99% of libraries still have docs that basically render to some pretty .html static pages assuming a human will click through them. In 2025 the docs should be a single your_project.md text file that is intended to go into the context window of an LLM. Repeat for everything.
