#Regex Technique: Unknown Words The unpublished works of #WEBDuBois sometimes contain handwritten words that I can't read. To find potential words that fit the sentence's meaning I use regular expression searches of a word list loaded into a text editor or concordancer. 1/11

I rarely talk about X and its #algorithm. This is one of those extremely rare times. This stat is one of those that in a vacuum looks neither good, nor bad. Having 75% of the interactions with your content coming from followers sounds good, right? I mean, that's why you spent time building a community, writing content, providing resources, engaging with your followers, listening to them, helping them out. When you take a step back and you look at the larger picture you see (in my case): 1) A community of 20.200 followers (used the term on purpose, although I prefer "people"), that every day shrinks. Growth has not just stopped, it's being slashed. Why? Because this platform is full of bots and fake accounts, and it would be laudable if it were a massive clean-up action. But it ain't. On certain topics (mostly politics) the bots are having a field day. 2) 75% of 20.000 followers would be a huge number, but the reality I'm experiencing is different. Content struggling in the 200-600 impressions range. Let's say a post's been seen by 500 people. 75% of those are followers (375 people). That leaves 125 people that come from outside of your "bubble". 3) 375 followers seeing my content, on a community of 20.200 people means my content has been shown to 1.85% out of the people that decided they want to see my content. This is not just a bubble, it's a micro-bubble within a bubble. 4) And it's a 2 way street. I'm seeing less and less of the content of the people I really enjoy, whom I followed, or whose content I used to engage with (likes, bookmarks, comments, shares), some of which I had built relationships with. All that is being driven into the ground. So, what's the deal? From my perspective, I started this account with the desire of helping people, and I think I've done so along the years. But it's getting harder and harder to find the motivation to continue doing it here since I'm not even reaching those that want to be reached by me. This used to be a social network. It's not anymore. They only call it a "social network" because it helps drive the "free speech" narrative. This is now just a "controlled" micro-bubbles experiment. When you post here, you have to accept the fact that unless you try to be edgy, scummy, or viral, you will have to deal with all sorts of gates, with almost no keys at all. Post because you love posting and you love your community, and expect nothing in return.
