When groups defer to the most assertive person in the room, they reward confidence over competence. The danger of speaking with conviction is that it can stifle critical thinking and silence dissent. We learn more from people who explore ideas than those who attack and defend.

@AdamMGrant Unbelievable that you would use the word “segregation” in this context. You are not being restricted in any way, people are simply telling you they’re *not interested* in what you have to say about this. Takes a lot of unexamined privilege to believe that’s oppression.

@LorenaBraid @rheum_cat Report it to the journal. I’ve done this previously, screenshots of my work and highlighting the plagiarized text. And you can provide “proof” of the grant submission date/review from grant-related correspondence. Scientific misconduct should not be given a free pass.

It's easier to fill gaps in competence than gaps in character. Even if people have strong experience, it's a mistake to hire or promote them if they have weak values. Knowledge and skills can be learned. Principles like integrity, humility, and generosity are tougher to teach.
