socialism is not russian, it is not african, it is not european.
it is the correct conclusion one draws when they look at the history of struggle and the impact of capital's domination of labor.
Magatte Wade@magattew
Socialism is not African. It was imported by Soviet-trained independence leaders who destroyed our indigenous market traditions and called it liberation.

A father looks at his five-year-old daughter's hand and foot, which were cut off as punishment for not meeting the daily rubber quota, in King Leopold’s Congo Free state. 1904.
This image reflects the brutal reality of King Leopold II’s rule over the Congo Free State, a territory he controlled as his personal possession from 1885 to 1908. Under his administration, the land was transformed into a massive extraction zone for rubber and ivory, driven by the global demand created by industrial expansion. To maximize profits, a system of forced labor was imposed on the Congolese population, with strict quotas enforced by armed agents and private militias.
Failure to meet these quotas often resulted in severe punishment. One of the most infamous practices was the cutting off of hands and feet, used both as a form of terror and as proof that ammunition had not been wasted. These acts were not isolated incidents but part of a broader system designed to control, intimidate, and exploit entire communities. Villages were destroyed, families were separated, and countless lives were lost in the process.
Leopold himself never set foot in the Congo, yet he amassed immense wealth from its resources while the population endured extreme suffering. Reports from missionaries, travelers, and reformers began to expose the scale of the violence, challenging the image Leopold had carefully constructed of a so-called humanitarian and civilizing mission. As evidence grew, international pressure mounted, leading to global condemnation.
By 1908, the outrage had become too great to ignore, and Leopold was forced to relinquish control. The Congo Free State was transferred to the Belgian government, bringing an end to his personal rule. However, the damage had already been done. The legacy of this period remains one of the clearest examples of how unchecked power, economic exploitation, and colonial ambition can combine to produce devastating human consequences.

The real crime is making cheese unaffordable for the poor.
Ben Graham@BenGrahamUK
Security tags on a block of cheese. This is where Britain is now. When basic food needs anti theft devices, it’s not just crime, it’s a collapse in deterrence and standards. A serious country doesn’t tolerate this.

@AfricanArchives “If somebody told me I only had one hour to live, I’d spend it choking a white man. I’d do it nice and slow. If I got tired I’d stop, have a glass of water, and choke him some more.”
