Here are 2 ways to get free AI models
1. Open Vs code:
Go to cline
Go to the settings
Select AI models
Check out one of these 3:
- nvidia/nemotron-3-super-120b-a12b:free
- stepfun/step-3.5-flash:free
- arcee-ai/trinity-large-preview:free
These Ai models are absolutely free and they are specifically designed for programming
You can test them and see the one that fits your work
2. Open your terminal (not on vs code)
Download Ollama by pasting this:
For windows:
irm ollama.com/install.ps1 | iex
For MacOS:
curl -fsSL ollama.com/install.sh | sh
Once you are done then download these Ai models one after another or you can pick one
Paste this:
ollama run gemma4
ollama run qwen3.5
ollama run qwen3.5-coder:14b
ollama run llama4:scout
My laptop is 16gb RAM so i selected these specific versions that fit best within 16GB RAM limit to ensure they run smoothly without crashing your system.
After downloading these models on your terminal
- Open Vs code
On Cline:
Go to API configuration
Click on API Provider
Select Ollama
Now click select model
You will see the models we installed
Select one of them
Congratulations you can now vibe code for free even when your internet connection is off
