My favorite side quest is eating foods at the place the food is named for. So far I've eaten:
-buffalo wings in Buffalo, NY
-key lime pie in the Florida keys
-Nashville hot chicken in Nashville

Last night my brilliant friend with 20 years of expertise in Neuroscience including a decade at NIDA was fired because she was recently promoted for her outstanding performance and it triggered the probation period.
This is not making NIH more efficient, this is not making us healthier, this is not punishing the people who misled the public, this is destroying America’s talent.
Her work is instrumental for testing whether new medications to fight addiction are safe and efficacious before they are tested in humans. now that research is at risk.
She was the backbone of the lab the most senior person. So much knowledge, talent, know how, wasted, so much science destroyed for the wrong reason.

It’s important for us scientists to articulate that the NIH cuts are surgically cruel: designed not to save money, but to maximally implode the capacity and infrastructure for research; research that saves and improves lives around the world. Why? Just cruelty.

@ohambiguity Senior authors are definitely a thing in neuroscience. Also if you’re not already, indicate undergrad co-authors on CV with an asterisk or similar. And spell it all out in any statements etc related to your work at review points!

I guess Corcoran interprets “final authority” to mean he can ignore FHB?

I am pretty sure this reflects what was in the initial draft of SB 266, not what ultimately passed. In the version that became law, presidents have the final say on the hire, but they do not have the ability to override the process itself as laid out in the faculty handbook.

Regarding the hiring of David Rancourt as interim provost: Keenan asked why Corcoran didnt adhere to the faculty handbook in his hiring. Corcoran said he didn't have to, and Galvano clarifies that because of new state law, hires like that are ultimately the president's decision.
