As voters in #Scotland and #Wales prepare to go to the polls in May, we are calling on all parties to commit to maintaining and strengthening precautionary approaches to all genetically modified organisms in food and farming. Read our briefs here: beyond-gm.org/beyond-gm-call…

@vickihird @IPESfood @ecoreflections has been warning about this for a decade or more Most tech marketed at farmers is for the tech provider benefit, not the farmer It just makes farmers dependent. That's the intention

⚖️ England’s “Precision Breeding” law faces a High Court challenge over the removal of risk assessment, traceability & labelling for New GMOs. The EU is on a similar path, with a final EP vote ahead. Legal uncertainty in England should serve as a warning. wickedleeks.riverford.co.uk/news/the-agtiv…

@Beyond_GM Maybe when someone like Rishi Sunak publishes a piece like this, the publisher should require him to reveal how much he has invested in biotech/tech companies.

Dear Rishi, facts matter. The genetically modified purple tomato does not prevent cancer. UK cancer organisations have been very clear in correcting this hype and UK food labelling law specifically prohibits such dangerous claims. archive.ph/rAPnZ

A LOT of seed GMO work seems to be about being able to patent, and therefore totally control the use of, crop seeds imho Preventing farmer seed saving Profit comes first Public benefit is a poor second
Ecoreflections@ecoreflections

A GMO cant be 'natural' and patented (thus by definition ;unnatural;) at the same time. By avoiding uncomfortable and complex discussions on patents, the UK is ensuring the whole GMO/PBO myth will blow up in its face.

A Bigger Conversation@ABiggerConvo

As the EU revises rules for gene-engineered plants, debates centre on safety, traceability and labelling. Overlooked is patent law’s role in reshaping who can breed plants, on what terms, and with what legal certainty overall. abiggerconversation.org/new-gmos-and-t…

Presumably they said this whilst standing in front of a British flag and wearing a baseball cap that said "grow baby grow". But also, something so British about plans to reduce reliance on 'foreign' rubber with dandelions.
Beyond GM@Beyond_GM

Researchers say that precision bred GMO dandelions will be “enabling us to build a new, domestic rubber supply that strengthens UK resilience”. Of the 30 million metric tonnes of rubber consumed globally each year, 0% comes from dandelions…defrafarming.blog.gov.uk/2026/02/02/fir…

Things are moving so fast at the moment around trade, regulation, GMOs and PBOs it’s hard to keep up. Good analysis & reminder that it ain’t over til it’s over…

1/ The @CommonsEFRA report on a UK–EU SPS agreement is out. It largely assumes the question is how to make alignment work, not whetherthe underlying regulatory choices are coherent. Let’s talk about why that matters. 🧵committees.parliament.uk/committee/52/e…

Duh. They are called ‘forever chemicals for a reason. Even if you can remove them with new tech it’s likely to be energy intensive and create secondary hazardous waste streams that require further, expensive treatment. I expect the government is calling this a “growth” market.

The @IPBES meeting in Manchester this week unites scientists from across the world to tackle biodiversity loss. Environment Secretary @EmmaforWycombe shared a message about the vital work to address climate change, pollution and the decline of nature. #IPBES12
