The #3rdOpenScienceSymposium has just begun! Following an introduction by our colleague @elli_lib , the symposium has officially begun with salutations from the invited representatives of the Greek government; these included addresses from Zoe Rapti Deputy Minister of Development, Dr. Anastasios Gaitanis, Secretary General of Research and Innovation at the Ministry of Development, Demosthenis Anagnostopoulos, Secretary General of Information Systems & Digital Governance, Ministry of Digital Governance, Professor Nikolaos Papaioannou, Secretary General of Higher Education, and George Nounesis, Director and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Center for Natural Sciences Research @NCSR_Demokritos the host of the event. While the first guests represented different forms of government and educational institutions, their speeches all shared a common thread; the fact that open access and open science hold a very significant position in the development of both the next steps in scientific research, but also the future of education and development. Emphasis was placed on the need for funding for the creation of the needed #infrastructures, physical and electronic, as well as the need for alignment and coordination of R&D activities on a paneuropean level, to ensure that we all move forward together. The first session of the Symposium focused on the #HistoryofOpenScience in Greece, on how the initiative for #OpenScience began and the actions of the Hellenic Open Science Initiative (HOSI) so far. Additionally, Spyros Athanasiou discussed how HOSI has provided strategic and #scientific support for the development and implementation of a national open science agenda, always in sync with the development of the European Open Science Cloud #EOSC, as well as the next steps needed to further strengthen collaboration between research institutions and the adoption of #OpenSciencePractices. While changes in policy on a European level are underway, to better support the adoption of Open Science, actions and initiatives on the national level seem to be lagging and therefore the need for better collaboration between the state and the institutions that work towards #OpenAccess and open science. @elli_lib took the podium to present the proposal for a national open science agenda and policy. Starting off, she pointed out that the adoption of open science is a one-way street, one that we can no longer afford to avoid, as it translates into an enormous cost in funds and time. Notes were made on how the National Open Science plan has developed over time, what limitations exist based on national legislation, the level of alignment between #EU and national policy and the prospect of achieving. The following Q&A session focused on the imperative need for further/ closer collaboration between #OSinstitutions and governmental bodies, both on the level of policy design as well as on ensuring that appropriate and sustainable sources of funding are identified and implemented.

Success! Despite the snow, we made it to @RaiseScience General Assembly in #Southampton! Here, @fkarayan talked about the EOSC EU Node and after that we discussed how our analysis system could contribute to the emerging nodes ecosystem.

Today, November 5th, 2024 marks the 5th time that the "Days of Open Science" are taking place in #Serbia. This regular biannual event, which initially started with Serbia's participation in the #OpenAIRE project, is aimed at promoting the implementation of open science and the adoption of supporting infrastructures, however, the greatest success our Serbian NOAD has had with this series of events is the development of a strong and stable Open Science #community at the national level. Our Serbian NOAD @BikiOA will be showcasing all the OpenAIRE projects where local scientists and researchers are involved, such as @GraspOS_project @OSTrails and more. The central theme for this year’s event will be the presentation of the proposal of the new National Open Science Platform, to be adopted by the Serbian Ministry of Science @nitragovrs in the coming months.
