Meet one of our past CAEP grant winners, Dr. Johannes von Vopelius-Feldt, Emergency Physician and Trauma Team Leader at St. Michael’s Hospital, @unityhealthto. His research asks an important question: "𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘂𝗺𝗮 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲: 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘂𝗺𝗮 𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹𝘀?" 🩺 Brief summary: "Trauma is the most common cause of death for Canadians under 45 years of age. Admission to a trauma centre has been shown to improve survival following severe injuries. In this research, we have connected EMS data of incidents of severe injuries with measures of marginalization on a community level. In our analysis, we will compare if marginalized communities have a higher burden of trauma and if they have equitable access to trauma centre care.
