#WorcestershireHour PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE USE From Stuart Allen, Founder of #WorcestershireHour 22nd September 2025 Social media initiative #WorcestershireHour will cease all operations on the 31st October 2025. On the 6th May, Bank Holiday Monday, 2013 the very first #WorcestershireHour was held between 8-9pm on the Twitter social media platform. Founded by local businessman Stuart Allen, the idea was to use the Global platform of Twitter for local business networking, and it worked. Every Monday since then has been #WorcestershireHour, regardless of Bank Holidays and even a Christmas Day. If it was a Monday, then 8-9pm was #WorcestershireHour. Stuart Allen has not missed a single Monday since it started in 2013, that’s a staggering 646 consecutive weeks. The success of #WorcestershireHour attracted commercial sponsorships, and a new business was born. The business was run on social enterprise principles and since it started has donated over £15,000 to charities and charity events. What started as a virtual business networking event, #WorcestershireHour soon attracted charities, community groups and public sector organisations, all keen to share their news. In November 2013 an in-person event was run at Worcestershire County Cricket Club on New Road. Over 100 people attended, and it was featured on BBC Midlands Today. In 2014 the #WorcestershireHour community held the first ever Worcestershire Festival of Business and the Worcestershire Social Media Awards. Sadly, after the Twitter platform was bought by Elon Musk and renamed as X, user numbers have plummeted in the United Kingdom. This has had a detrimental effect on sponsorship revenue, and the business is no longer viable. I would like to thank every sponsor, supporter and contributor that has supported #WorcestershireHour over the years.
