So my entire life I thought “bonsai trees” were a specific species of tiny tree. I didn’t realize bonsai referred to the practice of stunting otherwise normal species of tree, and my mind is still recovering from that. Tiny trees!

Let me be very clear: I said I want the A’s to stay in Oakland. I also said I want an expansion team to have the opportunity to choose San Jose as a hometown. San Jose and our residents deserve a Major League Baseball team, and frankly, the MLB deserves to be here in our city. We have incredible fans, weather, and our metro area has a larger economy than 30 U.S. states. Promoting San Jose IS NOT deriding any other city. The simple truth is San Jose has less than half the property crime rate of other major Bay Area cities. We need to do even better, but celebrating our progress is not a criticism of any other city. Stories indicating otherwise are simply wrong.
