@spectator You had no experience of schools but got to run an Acadamy school! What has an age restriction on Lords got to do with this? Pathetic ‘journalism’

If the newspaper reports are correct and Margaret Hodge is about to be named as the next chair of Ofcom, it’s a surprising choice. The current chair, Michael Grade, had a storied television career, whereas Hodge has never worked in the media. But the most jaw-dropping thing about this appointment is that she’s 81. Not that I’ve got anything against octogenarians – I’ll be one myself in the blink of an eye. But the government has. In its manifesto, Labour promised to introduce a mandatory retirement age of 80 in the House of Lords, and it’s already set the wheels in motion. ✍️ Toby Young Article | spectator.com/article/keir-s…

Soon all the people who still remember the horror of life for working class people before the creation of the NHS will be dead... and their testimony will become hearsay to those who would strive to capitalise on ill health. Harry Leslie Smith reminds us:

Luna, a 9yo Swedish girl, was brutally raped and strangled with shoelaces by the African immigrant ’Kamal’ when she was riding her bike home from school. She miraculously survived, but with severe and irreversible brain damage. When the incident occurred, Kamal was provided with new, protected housing by the police because people were enraged. Kamal also says he is happy with his ”punishment”, because there he can play a lot of video games. Why does the Swedish state do so much to protect immigrant vile criminals, but nothing to protect its own little girls?

It is completely unacceptable that the Prime Minister made a statement of such significance before PMQs today, without, as I understand it, providing any notice to the Leader of the Opposition. If it is the case, it is unprecedented and wrong. Why does this matter? It is standard procedure in the House of Commons for ALL ministerial statements to be provided to the official opposition before they are made in Parliament. This allows for effective scrutiny. The House, and the Speaker, rightly demands this, and MPs and ministers take it very seriously. This was always done when we were in government, and once, when my departmental officials failed to do it, for a statement I was making as a minister, I apologised to the House from the despatch box. Such a significant statement that is a topic of huge public interest as well as national security, should be subject to the expected and understood procedures for making statements. The Prime Minister has evaded scrutiny in this way and been given a platform for this issue that was never afforded to any other PM while I served in Parliament. The Speaker of the House of Commons has been robust in calling for our Parliament and its members to be protected from the alleged spying. The PM should do now the right thing and subject himself to proper scrutiny from Parliament on this topic, with adequate time for detailed questions, once he has published the evidence that he says he is going to. This sneaking around only gives the impression that he has something to hide. The country deserves nothing less.

We’re clearing the asylum backlog. Jan-Mar 2025 saw a 116% rise in asylum decisions, the second highest quarterly figure since records began. Our plan is clear: ➡️ Reduce the backlog ➡️ Send failed asylum seekers home ➡️ Shut down asylum hotels ➡️ Save the taxpayer money

BREAKING: 🚨 “TRAITOR TO HIS PEOPLE” — FORMER ROYAL CHAPLAIN SLAMS KING CHARLES 🚨 🔴 Dr. Gavin Ashenden, former Chaplain to Queen Elizabeth II, delivers a stunning rebuke: 🗣️ “King Charles is betraying his people… and civil war is coming to Britain.” 🔴 A Crown once sworn to defend tradition now bends the knee to globalism, mass migration, and woke tyranny. 🔥 THIS ISN’T JUST CRITICISM — IT’S A WARNING FROM INSIDE THE PALACE WALLS 🔥 📢 WHAT THIS MEANS: ⚠️ Even the monarchy’s former inner circle sees the danger — the Crown is no longer standing with the people. ⚠️ Ashenden fears a future of civil unrest, triggered by cultural erosion and a nation silenced by betrayal. ⚠️ The King’s silence on the invasion of Britain and the loss of identity is being read loud and clear. 💥 The British people are being replaced, ignored, and ruled by those who no longer represent them. 💥 And now, voices once loyal to the throne are sounding the alarm. 🚨 WHEN A CHAPLAIN CALLS THE KING A TRAITOR, THE COUNTRY IS IN PERIL 🚨 🔴 This isn’t about politics — it’s about survival. 🔴 Will Charles stand with Britain, or rule over its ashes? 🔥 THE TIME FOR BLIND LOYALTY IS OVER. THE PEOPLE ARE AWAKENING. 🔥 @gavinashenden

Ed Miliband: "The biggest threat to nature and food security...is not solar panels or onshore wind. It is the climate crisis, which threatens farmland, food production and the livelihoods of farmers.” No. The biggest threat to nature, food security (and energy security) is you.
