We've recently seen a big change in the trade-ups, so what if Valve is looking to change it even more?
I'm talking about trade-downs. It shouldn't work the exact opposite that trade-ups work, but perhaps you would get back 5x reds for 2x gold or 10 pinks for 2x reds.
