quick too-early CFB offensive notes continue (was OU yday, today we head a bit east within the SEC) ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE coaches - HC deboer and coordinators grubb & wommack return but a shake up across positional coaches brings in former auburn OC (and noted recruiter) derrick nix at WR spot qb - ty simpson heads to the nfl (maybe a year too early), which creates what should be a really neck and neck qb BATTLE over the coming months between ‘high upside’ keelon russell and the ‘safer’ austin mack (who has a long history with this offensive staff). Initial lean would be mack - and it is notable that mack did win out the backup job last season between the two and looked like he belonged on the field at least when he was thrust into action versus indiana in the rose bowl. rb - jam miller & dre washington graduate and richard young xfer to colorado. That leaves daniel hill (dropped some weight) as the likely starter with some combination of kevin riley, ak dear (getting some spring hype would guess good shot at RB2), and tenn/appst xfer keith khalifa (largest rb, but would guess KK not in top 3 of depth come fall) as experienced players in the mix. 5 star fr ej crowell is the wildcard in this room but has been limited in spring practice - they say its a week-to-week thing so he might go into the summer a bit further down on the depth chart but good early reviews when he has participated. crowell could definitely be a factor this year, but it could become a crowded backfield if everyone stays healthy. Due to lack of run game, hill was used a lot in the pass game especially near the end of the season. In their first scrimmage, ak dear had a few good runs per deboer. he also said that daniel hill is really steady and in good position to have a great offseason (last year he was hurt during this time which got him off to a slow start). After last season, the offensive line is still a concern and seems to be a work in progress (one returning starter). the rb room has talent but ground production will be decided by the five guys they settle on up front. wr - germie bernard to nfl, isaiah horton to txam, jalen hale to smu, jaylen mbakwe to ga tech, cole adams to vandy. Bama lose a ton at wr, but ryan coleman-williams (maybe new name and jersey # will give him a fresh start after a down soph season…was the star of the first scrimmage by all accounts) and lotzeir brooks (really impressive slot whose role grew down the stretch) are back. Noah rogers (ohio st & nc st xfer) is the “splashy” portal addition but he’ll have to beat out Rico Scott (possibly fastest guy on the team) and 5 star cederian morgan (6’4”) for a starting spot. te - Josh cuevas graduates, leaving questions in this room but would assume true soph kaleb edwards is the favorite to lead TEs in catches (started 6 games, played every game, looked solid). Fellow soph marshall pritchett should get more run as well. brought in top 10 te recruit mack sutter as well but not expecting much this season from him. Ok st xfer josh ford provides depth. biggest question: can establish an actual running game to take pressure off the QB and open things up for the passing game? Last year they averaged 3.4 ypc (which includes qb sack ydage) and none of their top three rbs cracked 4 ypc. 104.1 rush yds per game was 125th out of 136 FBS teams. guy im looking forward most to playing in dfs: cheap, early season lotzeir brooks

Thanks to the CFB Winning Edge Returning Production Database, I came across this nugget... Oklahoma State returns: 0% passing snaps 0% rushing snaps 0.06% receiving snaps (2) Redshirt freshman receiver Matrail Harris right now:

With the new weighted average at @bracketproject, I'm now the 6th-highest ranked bracketologist! This doesn't even include the early years of top-10 finishes. Extremely grateful for everyone who follows and interacts each year. Hopeful for bigger & better things down the road!
Kevin Pulsifer@imPULSEivity

Finished T14th out of 290. Another top 5% performance with my best projection ever. Second time in a decade of doing this that I broke the previous all-time record (although this year many others did too) Above the average every single year, and tied with the Matrix this season

with cbb winding down, cfb prep begins (focusing on offenses initially) first team up, OKLAHOMA SOONERS coaches - HC venables and coordinators return (yr 2 of arbuckle at OC will have high expectations), jason witten now the TE coach which should help recruiting, and most importantly rb coach demarco murray has moved on (to nfl, good riddance to years of absurd rb usage) qb - john mateer returns (hopefully can stay healthy….electric runner)! will 4 star fr bowe bentley win the backup job? seems likely to RS and Newbauer take QB2 snaps this season, but bentley is QB of the future. We all trust mateer’s legs but can he clean up mechanics as a passer / will OL play improve? rb - likely a blaylock/xavier robinson rbbc of sorts with maybe some lloyd avant (csu xfer) mixing in, wait and see on hatton (4 star fresh, physically ready from practice reports) & dez walker (3 star that has some good early feedback esp on pass pro) - will be interesting to see if new RB coach will be a bit more stable with how players are used week to week. Question the upside of any one player in this group but more promise with the change of position coach (just smash rbs in arbuckle offenses just really are not a thing). confident in blaylock/xavier being involved but will someone jump out as rb3? wr - sategna returns and xfers trell harris (uva) & parker livingston (texas) slot in nicely as the three likely (possible) starters - should be an upgrade at WR vs last season. trio of 4 star freshman petit (probably best of the three), odom, rogers waiting in the wings and will compete with xfer allyene (wash st) and returners carter, elijah thomas (potential xfactor who always gets hyped by those who cover ou it seems), jordan, carreon (very tall), and manny choice (positive early camp reviews) for rotational snaps. satenga has really high end production upside. livingston likely will be boom-bust game to game and trell harris should be a bit more steady. te - jaren kanak is off to nfl and in comes transfers hayden hansen (florida), van dorselaer (tenn), and rocky beers (csu) to reshape the room - number of guys competing for snaps but HH would be odds on favorite to lead the group in snaps. OU is really putting an emphasis on run blocking from te position (maybe some 11 out of them) so would not expect overly gaudy pass catching numbers. biggest question of offense for 2026: Can they figure out a way to actually run the ball with success (3.54 ypc last season, gross)?

maryland just doesnt get recruits like zion elee last time terps had a 247 5-star was Chop Robinson in 2021 (who played one season before xfer to penn st) with sidney stewart & zahir mathis returning on the d-line, expectations for terps pass rush have never been higher going into a season🐢
Inside Maryland Sports@Terrapins247

ESPN on Terps freshman Zion Elee: “The top prospect in Maryland brings elite length, a quick first step like Mathis and Stewart and outstanding athletic testing numbers, including an 11-foot broad jump. His physical tools should help him develop into a dominant edge presence.”
