Friends, if you are in Zurich tomorrow evening, feel free to join me for a keynote on the challenges to democracy amid the era of geopolitical turmoil and greyzone warfare. You can watch online if you are not able to join us in person. There will be a public debate & Q&A too.

@vtchakarova Not sure. Alliances of autocrats that share borders end up with one of them losing superpower status. And very often head. Good chance US is a better ally for Russia than China. #EagleBear

@elonmusk Should be able to pay part of your taxes by directly funding local road work or parks or services that you use. It's a shame the money seems to go everywhere else.

@vtchakarova True, Ukraine should just get rid of all these meddlers and fight their war by themselves. Not like their president is cruising the world asking other countries to get involved… right?

This is not just ignorance. It’s simply not factual which means that the main negotiator and mediator in this process - the US - is taking sides & is pursuing its own strategic agenda of geopolitical rapprochement with Russia at the expense of Ukraine. Just brutal at this stage.
Yaroslav Trofimov@yarotrof

The depth of ignorance is something. Not only Steve Witkoff cannot name the five Ukrainian regions he’s ready to sign away to Russia, he also thinks they had been handed over to Ukraine by Khrushchev. (Crimea is the only one of the five that was transferred in 1954 to Ukraine under Khrushchev, who was actually not a Ukrainian, though he came from a border area of Russia.)

@MarioNawfal Willing? Willing EU beaurocrats? Willing governments? Or willing nations? These referendums will be a blast. There will be referendums? So we are sure we are… willing.

🇬🇧 STARMER: TRUMP’S NOT WRONG — EUROPE NEEDS TO PAY UP Keir Starmer admits Trump “has a point” — Europe needs to stop riding on America’s defense wallet. He’s pitching a “coalition of the willing” to keep Ukraine’s skies, ports, and borders safe after any peace deal. Starmer: "We need to think about defense and security in a more immediate way." Translation: time to get serious. On Trump: "On a person-to-person basis, I think we have a good relationship," but those steel tariffs and public scoldings? “Quite a degree of disorientation.” Source: Reuters

🚨🇬🇧🇺🇸UK RUSHES TO STRIKE U.S TRADE DEAL PM Keir Starmer is scrambling to secure a trade deal with the U.S before Trump's 25% tariffs on UK steel take effect on April 1. Trump, doubling down on his tough stance, declared: "We've been abused for a long time… we will be abused no longer." With fears of a £24B economic hit, Starmer's under massive pressure to cut a deal in time. Source: Daily Mail

@VikingXBT A bit ironic😆Chinese car pretending to be from Sweden trying to use @elonmusk ‘s involvement in politics to capture mkt share in EU. Because Elon is “too soft on Russia” but China is Putin’s biggest ally? Wait, who should we boycott?

Why does TikTok allow various anti-male hashtags, but anything anti-female is blocked? For example, #mensuck is allowed and has 55,000+ videos but #womensuck is blocked? See what you can find, it's just /tag/ (example: /tag/mensuck or /tag/womensuck) on desktop after the URL. Here are some I have found on TikTok: #menarestupid allowed, #womenarestupid blocked #menarebad allowed, #womenarebad blocked #menareevil allowed, #womenareevil blocked #menarescum allowed, #womenarescum blocked

🚨🇺🇸WORLD’S FIRST BIOMETRIC SMART GUN HITS THE MARKET A Colorado startup just launched a handgun that only fires for authorized users, using fingerprint and facial recognition to prevent theft, accidents, and misuse. The Biofire Smart Gun disables itself the moment it leaves an approved user’s hands, promising security without sacrificing quick access. Gun rights advocates and skeptics are watching closely—will this be the future of firearm safety or just another gadget? Source: Brighter Side of News

When Zelensky shows up in the UK or France, he should urge for the extension of the nuclear deterrence to the territory of Ukraine. It‘s easy to talk the talk of public support for Zelensky, but let‘s see how much skin in the game these two leading European nations really have.
Velina Tchakarova@vtchakarova

Now that NATO membership is off the table for Ukraine, the only realistic path to ensuring its survival is acquiring nuclear weapons. With the US stepping back, the responsibility for Europe’s nuclear deterrence falls on the UK and France - extending to what remains of Ukraine.

@donalt I think you nailed it - conclusion is that Europe as it is today is less important to the US than Russia. We all have friends that we were clise to but they changed and… and they all think we’re the bad guys. Alliances are tricky - Europe must remain a worthy ally or…

@vtchakarova Nothing to do with courage. Everything with unpopular-unpopular with more and more voters, popular with increasingly unpopular EU governing bodies. EU residents are paying a big price for a set of policies that seem autodestructive to them. Big decisions, zero referendums. Fear.

EU Gas storage is now below 50%. Courage and unpopular decisions on behalf of the EU are urgently required - 1) finding as many long-term LNG suppliers as possible for “whatever it takes” (eg Qatar, US, Africa) is a must now before everyone starts filling the reserves; 2) exploring gas projects in Europe is a must like the Neptune project in Romania; 3) make the EU-energy platform for collective purchases more popular among the members - strategic communication is a must! Otherwise, I guarantee you that the EU will increase the import of Russian gas (pipeline and LNG) due to the urgency of the situation, and this will have huge geopolitical price. #Velsig via @thierry_bros

@vtchakarova More likely shifting production to North America, not from. Cheap manufactoring is nothing without consumers to buy products.

Following Trump’s 10% to 25% tariffs announcement, China, Mexico, and Canada’s countermeasures could trigger further escalation, potentially leading to: ➡️New non-tariff barriers (NTBs), such as import restrictions and stricter customs procedures ➡️Further disruption of supply chains, with companies shifting production away from North America towards China and BRICS+ ➡️Potential disruptions to global commodity markets, particularly in energy, agriculture, and manufacturing
