A small reflection.
When I shared my Filipino/Tagalog ASR model for vosk 5 years ago, I did it with the hope of contributing something valuable to the community—especially because open-source Filipino speech recognition models back then (before whisper) was almost nonexistent.

A restaurant manager in Japan recently posted that a white couple came in & asked in English if they had an English menus. He replied “no” in Japanese. “This is Japan. If I went to an English speaking country, I’d speak English. If you’re in Japan, learn Japanese.”

昨日は白人のカップルが入店してきたから「日本語が分からないと対応できない」と伝えたらポカンとして「no english menu?」と英語で聞いてきたから「ない」と日本語で答えてやった。ここは日本だ。俺も英語の国に行ったら英語を喋る。日本では日本語を喋る努力をしろ。無理なら通訳を連れて来い。

@UnseenJapanSite Unless the couple were rude about it this response feels way too extreme. and not to mention I feel like there's actually a very interesting balanced discussion or a middle ground could be the solution but both sides are way too entitled about it.

Lee comes out firing against Kwon in a Korean newspaper interview.
Kwon is no longer affiliated with Qcenter as of 4 months ago. And was not authorized to upload the 3 author paper. It will be retracted.
The 6 author paper is in peer review and will have corrections and updates.
Kwon was definitely at the MMC presentation today… but it’s unclear if Lee was.
Perhaps Kwon is intent on taking credit as much as possible and establishing rights.
The New Scientist HT Kim interview hence stands: they’re in peer review and trying to do the characterization right now.
The all important is it really a room temperature superconductor question remains unanswered.

Maybe They Don’t Even Know What They Have Jul 28 Friday - Lee and Kwon show up as unscheduled additions to the International Symposium on Metallic Multilayers Kwon introduces, but Lee presents. Audience is frustrated by presentation in Korean which is then translated. They claim a weak Meissner effect. It maybe it only works in a thin film. He says they need to run a current through the material in order to levitate it. He doesn’t have a sample of the material on hand. The data looks like spotty and unsophisticated. This obviously completely accurate information was heard in the original Korean, human translated into English, heard by native Korean speakers, writing on the forum posts of FMKorea, a website dedicated to fans of the game Football Manager in Korean, then Google Translated into English. This is definitely financial advice and you should definitely buy a lead mine at this point.
