We will order proportionate measures in relation to the Russian Federation. My thoughts go first and foremost to the injured, their families and the residents who experienced terrible moments in their own homes. I thank them for the calmness with which they responded to this situation and assure them of the full support of the Romanian state. The unprecedented nature of the event requires a firm, coordinated and proportionate response - at national, allied and international levels. I firmly state that the full responsibility for this incident lies with the Russian Federation. What happened today in Galati is a direct consequence of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine, of Moscow's irresponsible and indiscriminate operation of these weapons systems in the immediate vicinity of NATO borders, and of its systematic disregard for international law. There is no ambiguity about the perpetrator and cause of this aggression. The Romanian Armed Forces acted in accordance with the procedures established for such situations, with firm orders to shoot down the drone as soon as conditions allowed such an operation without the risk of casualties or damage on the ground. After the army's radars detected the drone entering national airspace, two Romanian Air Force F-16 aircraft and an IAR-330 SOCAT helicopter tracked the drone within national airspace. The decision not to engage the target was made because the conditions did not exist to allow its destruction without the risk of significantly endangering the safety of the civilian population. Romania's response is firm and multi-faceted. We have ordered and implemented the following measures, some of which have already been implemented: 1. Informing Allies* All NATO allies and European Union partners have been informed of the incident. Communication with allied military structures is ongoing in real time. 2. Additional Allied anti-drone capabilities* - Romania has formally requested that allies deploy additional anti-drone capabilities to the national territory, to strengthen our defense and the Alliance's Eastern Flank, in accordance with SACEUR instructions. 3.
