When Drake said "kendrick raps like he's about to get the slaves free" and as a black person you laugh at that, you should do some introspection. "Hahaha look at kendrick he's rapping about the effects of oppression in the lives of black people". What??? 😂😂😂😂

These people believed that Drake was a pedo just because a short jealous rapper called him one. No FBI tipline, no proof, nothing. & yet today they are going through mental gymnastics to try and discredit victims on the Epstein files because their beloved rappers were named 🥴

Michael Jackson was not the most critically acclaimed artist of his time, and got mixed reviews for some of his most consequential work. But no-one knows the names of his critics or anything they said. Today, Michael's greatness isn't debated, it's studied. The clowns we're forced to deal with today would've called Michael overrated when he was in his prime. Their entire personality revolves around hating anything and everything popular. They want us to believe that "the culture" matters more than the people. When it comes to Drake, you have an entire media apparatus that seemingly exists to antagonise him. They hold him to standards to which they don't hold everyone else. They scream his perceived failures and whisper his accomplishments. Their opinions are irrelevant, and won't even make it into the footnotes of history. How many albums have extremely high review scores but don't get played where music lives? What does that tell you about the value of "critical consensus"? Drake's albums are always criticised harshly, yet he is the first rapper ever to have 10 albums chart simultaneously on the Billboard 200. There will never be a greater measure of success for music than how much it gets played by the public. No-one is going to care what Pigeons and Planes rated Scorpion when we're discussing it 50 years from now. No-one is going to give a damn what Views's overall rating on Metacritic was. True pioneers often face fierce resistance, but when all is said and done, we will be studying their strides, not their hurdles.

You know what's funny about the conversation around Kendrick's music? It's viewed as the epitome of black art, but in reality, it is largely structured by European tradition. Every time you bring up the fact that Drake has a much larger and much more loyal audience, what do these kbots say? Kendrick has Grammys and a Pulitzer. They teach his music in university courses. He appeals to "intellectuals" (no, he doesn't). All of the metrics they use are explicitly European in origin. As music developed in the West, philosophers like Plato warned that it was dangerous because of its emotional resonance. It needed to be controlled by rigid structures that limited its influence. Augustine of Hippo was a Christian philosopher who made a similar observation. He was uncomfortable about how emotional certain hymns would make him. So the church discouraged dancing and limited tempo. This philosophy was baked into the development of Western music theory. The ideal Western listener would be someone who can sit still and listen to lengthy symphonies with minimal emotional expression. Listening became a cerebral exercise. And music became externalised. It could exist entirely on a sheet of paper, symbolised by notations and scales. Africans were different. While their music had structure, it was internalised and intuitive. Everything was about rhythm and expression, feeling over meaning. They believed that music primarily served the soul. This is why movement was/is such an important part of African music. If they can't dance to it, just go ahead and throw it in the trash. You see this in the dramatic difference between black church hymns and white church hymns. One is far more animated and rhythmic, while the other is more meditative and restrained. Keeping this in mind, it makes sense why an artist like Kendrick would appeal to a Western institution like the Pulitzer committee. His music prioritises reflection over movement. Contemplation over feeling. This is why they don't give these awards to African artists. African songs prioritise simplicity and repetition, which invites audience engagement and animates the spirit. Drake is a very deep artist. Far more than he gets credit for. But the reason he strikes a chord with so many people is because he appeals to their emotions, and he makes them dance. He does not appeal to high-browed, self-important elites. He appeals to ordinary people who use music to fuel their day, or as a form of escapism. This is the type of music the masses gravitate towards. And it is why African music has had such a massive influence over the West. If you want to talk about colonisation, Kendrick is as colonised as it gets. The idiot parades his trophies as validation of his blackness, not realising that they are actually the exact opposite.

Take Care will always have a special place in people's hearts because of the nostalgia and cultural capital it has built over the years. It is the most legendary sophomore album of all time, and is currently outselling every rap release. That being said, Drake surpassed that version of himself a long time ago. His vocal performance has substantially improved since 2011, as well as his style of melody. Songs like Keep The Family Close, Redemption, Finesse, Jaded, Tried Our Best, Drew A Picasso etc. are Drake at his most refined, most mature as an R&B vocalist. On the rap side of things, songs like Gold Roses, Champagne Poetry, 8am in Charlotte, Stories About My Brother etc. are my favourite rap performances from him. He is a much better artist than he was 15 years ago. A lot of people critique albums based on public sentiment and nostalgia, which is why certain bodies of work often aren't appreciated in the moment of their release. It's only when people have lived with the music for long enough that they start to realise they were underestimating its value. Take Care is receiving its just praise, but I believe it's a matter of time before Views, Scorpion, CLB and FATD surpass it in terms of cultural prestige.

A chipped tooth, a bruised arm, and ring camera footage of him throwing her phone out the car was the “proof” Halle provided to secure court ordered protection from DDG. Halle now has custody of halo for 2 months and will be taking the 18 month old to Italy. Halle has now secured full custody of Halo and DDG can no longer see his son. This is a calculated check mate attempt to destroy and end DDG’s career with allegations of violence, right when his steaming career was at its highest and when had just dropped an album.
