Tried a ripe durian today. I have such a bad sense of smell that it didn't bother me at all. The rest of the family was revolted though. None of them would try it, but Jessica let me kiss her afterward. She said it was "like kissing a rubbish bin".

CEO of America’s largest public hospital system says he’s ready to replace radiologists with AI.
Mitchell H. Katz, MD, the president and CEO of New York City’s public hospital system, has stated that he is prepared to begin replacing radiologists with artificial intelligence for certain diagnostic tasks as soon as the regulatory environment permits. Speaking at a recent panel, Katz highlighted the potential for AI to serve as the "first reader" for routine screenings such as mammograms and X-rays, which would allow hospitals to realize significant financial savings amid the rising costs of human specialists. In this scenario, radiologists would transition into a secondary role, only reviewing images that the technology identifies as abnormal. Other healthcare leaders supported this vision, citing data that suggests AI can be more accurate than humans in specific low-risk screenings.
However, this proposal has met with intense opposition from medical professionals who argue that such a shift would pose a severe threat to patient safety. Radiologists have criticized hospital administrators for being "confidently uninformed," claiming that current AI technology is not yet capable of providing independent patient care without human oversight.

Epic Systems has established an extraordinarily dominant position in U.S. healthcare IT, controlling over half of acute care hospital beds and dominating academic medical centers.
It functions as the de facto gatekeeper for health data belonging to hundreds of millions of Americans.
Its market power stems not from superior technology but from structural lock-in mechanisms that make switching (defection) extremely expensive and difficult for hospitals and health systems.
The government has enabled the concentration of the “digital backbone” of American healthcare in a single private vendor, and we're paying for it dearly.

In healthcare:
I want to summarize a complex spine patient's history in clinic.
Did they have an EMG? I type "EMG" into the search tool. It points me to a scanned pdf from an outside facility. I have to scroll trhough 18 pages of billing records to find the information I need.
Did they have an MRI? There's only a report uploaded. I can't access the actual images.
Have they failed physical therapy? The patient says they tried PT, but the notes are scattered throughout the chart.
I spend 15 minutes just trying to figure out the history of the patient. There's no AI tool that does this for me.
Meanwhile, AI is controlling cows from a smartphone...

Farmer just opens a simple app and draws a line on the map. That line becomes the fence. As cows approach the boundary, the collar beeps and vibrates. With one tap, the whole herd moves to fresh grass or the milking shed. No physical fences. Less labor. Huge cost savings for farmer. Already on 700k cows across New Zealand, Australia, and the US. and now in talks to raise at a $2B valuation led by Peter Thiel.

Tipikal orang Indo yg suka banget konspirasi ya. Apa2 soal krisis nyalahin Soros, nunjuk semua kesalahan di IMF, dan sebagainya.
Ada satu paper menarik yg bahas khusus krismon 1997. Dari paper ini bilang, salah satu dosa besar yg bikin keadaan ekonomi Indo makin carut marut waktu itu ada di bagian Crony Capitalism oleh Soeharto dan keluarganya.
Hubungan bisnis-pemerintah terlalu deket bikin banyak bank swasta besar di Indo dikuasai konglomerat yg punya hubungan dekat dgn kekuasaan, termasuk anggota keluarga Soeharto.
Belum lagi narasi "IMF penjahat tunggal". Terakhir aku main2 ke Museum Bank Indonesia, di situ dijelasin dramanya jauh lebih kompleks. Justru kenapa IMF bisa nutup banyak bank itu permintaan dari pemerintah kita sendiri yg manggil mereka.
Banyak bank yang ditutup sebenarnya udah "zombie" (insolven) jauh sebelum IMF dateng, tapi tetap dipelihara karena koneksi politik.
Mana waktu itu sempet2nya Soeharto gak ngelakuin kesepakatan awal bareng IMF semata2 buat amanin bisnis keluarga, yang memicu jatohnya kurs Rupiah secara drastis.
