The way ppl behave over this is so egregiously asinine & disturbing. All nuance is lost. Just a vague semblance of humanity squealing with mindless hatred, cruelty & obsessive need to see others crumble. Not for a better world, but for the world of others to be worse than theirs. It goes beyond fairness and women’s rights- the same people will berate women and say they need to be pumping out babies and making sandwiches. It’s scapegoating, distraction and misplaced anger. To focus so horrifyingly on one person out of billions - who did nothing besides be a woman with a less common chromosome situation - is nothing short of a massive move to deny dignity, perhaps existence, to humans who don’t fit a neat box. It’s yet another step towards eugenics and the infinitely destructive and self devouring mindset of genetic, cultural purity. I’m not even a strong proponent of transwomen in sports - I think a very indepth process to deliberate how that could ever be a fair addition to sports (how early one transitioned, physical attributes, how they measure to others) would be necessary to even truly start the conversation. But real conversations are not the reality. It’s a stampede intent on erasing dignity, it’s a regression into violent tribalism fueled by an algorithm that favors culture war profiteers and right wing political figures. It’s the perfect concept for people to latch on to instantly dismiss the opinion of anyone who dares stand up for trans/intersex rights: “anyone who thinks men can be women don’t have any views worth considering” and with Imane: “a violent man being celebrated for punching women”- abhorrently misrepresentative, pervasive and dissonant motifs strewn all through out social media, especially twitter. That’s why this is the drum that is beaten to guide those in pain who’ve been trained to trade reason for rage - a simple, terrible rhythm that is so much louder, easy and momentarily satisfying than the meek melody of dignity, nuance, complexity, diversity and understanding.
