much in the same way if you get up really close to a painting, you start to see the brush strokes and the whole "image" breaks down -- because your brain starts to pick out the particulars. it recognizes smaller governing patterns, it sees the process and not the work

if you hold your phone a bit out in front of your face, dont open these pictures, and just kinda look at the shapes, everything *appears* normal. your brain fills in the blanks and glosses over the weird discrepencies.
that's a known thing artists use to trick the eye constantly

i think they just legitimately can't see well at all, and most of the giveaways to AI require you to look at it at least slightly closer than a quick glance. AI, by design, kinda reads as "fine" at a distance and without scrutiny

it's fascinating to me how boomers don't even notice anything off about AI-generated images. they'll make it spit out something otherworldly and hideous like this and go "yum! looks good!"
