But as a successful feminist writer? I have met the feminist men in the academy and in activist circles. You couldn't pay me to date any of them. YMMV but your high visibility successful activist and academic friends are not likely to find love in some of those spaces.

Steph Richards: (She/her) - Say NO to hate.
The revelation published in the Observer on the 16th of Nov that a conservative Christian organisation is financing a healthcare group campaigning against assisted dying will not be a surprise to #HumanRights campaigners like myself. Let's examine how they affect #trans people's efforts to get equality. The anti-gender movement (aka 'gender-critical' or 'sex-realist') is a GLOBAL movement, particularly powerful in the UK and Republican states in the US. In 2017, a coalition was formed to roll back trans human rights by a group called 'Hands Across the Aisle.' Today in 2024, that coalition has expanded to include white supremacists, the far-right, political agitators (invariably based in Russia and the US), traditional trans-exclusionary radical feminists, but most importantly, the financers - organisations like Christian Concern, The Christian Institute, The Alliance Defending Freedom, (their income in the UK in the last financial year was over a jaw-dropping £1m) and The Heritage Foundation, the authors of Project 2025 who allegedly help coin the phrase "gender-ideology". Gender-critical organisations have mushroomed in the UK, using methods similar to multi-level marketing or pyramid selling - the more groups there are, the more impact they have on decision-makers. If an MP gets a letter from TransLucent, it may have an effect, but what if that MP in the SAME WEEK receives a letter from Sex Matters, Lesbian Labour, Labour Womens Declaration, WPUK, Womens Rights Network, Labour Womens Network....the list goes on and on and on. Yes, we know they are the same people who hold their conference at FiLiA once a year, but MPs don't know that. It's true in the UK; the anti-gender movement is relatively small in numbers, but, like a goalkeeper facing a penalty in a soccer match, they make themselves look big, and these people are incredibly vocal, shouting well above their weight. They also have the voice of the media in the UK, which we know is 80% right-wing. Some of the organisations in the coalition (those who are more radical) break their operations into geographical areas and then ' secret cells' similar to those used by terrorist organisations. These people are gender-critical 'cultists' undertaking street stalls, infiltrating bona fide women's groups and local political parties with "their concerns", stickering, and often writing to decision-makers. I mean lots of letters in a day! I want to make it clear that most people in the anti-gender movement do not realise who controls the purse strings, and like all groups, some members are "soft" while some are "radical extremists." However, the fact is organisations like the Alliance Defending Freedom (who, incidentally, were a prime driver in the loss of Roe v Wade in the US) can't hide the fact what their goals are - it's on their website for all to see, together with pretty much every anti-trans, anti-contraception, anti-abortion action (legislation and litigation) in the United States. In this post, I have not mentioned "dark money" and its links to fascist organisations, etc - they do exist. Still, there are great investigative journalists out there (Sarah Posner being one) who try to warn society of the dangers we all face. In reality, trans human rights are the tip of the iceberg, but to people like me, a trans woman, it's a big deal - all I want is to live life as my true self and help women in their struggles against the patriarchy, violence and oppression, particularly healthcare inequality. So much to do...so little time. What are you going to do @helenlewis @GappyTales ?

@GraceRoe5142 I feel like it’s gotten slightly better about Palestine because people have pushed back on that some, but this is still a problem yes. Personally, I am there more than other places now, but I’m not necessarily giving up on being any anywhere in particular.

This is my major concern moving anywhere else. Twitter is my primary source of news for what’s going in…. Pretty much all the places global north media likes to ignore. I haven’t seen any indication any other platform is comparable

tbh on bluesky it feels like people are overcorrecting for the worst things about twitter. its a frictionless fantasy world where outside of election stuff, bad things are happening in an ambient way "out there." you can spend hours on it without seeing anything about palestine

so-called leftists coming out of the woodwork to admit they don’t see disabled and sick people as normal or working class. really epic recruiting tactic from an already super effective organization

Lmk if I'm missing something, but I do think it's kinda funny that the DSA - basically a Democrat canvassing org with a model UN club-type component - thinks they're being mass targeted by the feds rn. What is a greater threat to the status quo - DSA resolutions or masks?

Reading twitter discourse about how casual sex is dangerous for women, then listening to my straight friends talk about their exes. I don't think exclusivity is all it's cracked up to be, and it's certainly not a guarantee of safety in an amatanormative world.

Honestly the fact that all of y’all are focused *solely* on how to increase literacy instead of trying to expand how we build and sustain communities so one cognitive skill doesn’t determine your ability to function in society is annoying.

as your local abortion surveillance/data collection girl, i trust euki for menstrual tracking. not only in terms of data/ deletion/user control, but they also just updated so you can find abortion info IN the app, while step by step explaining how they’re protecting your search

don't donate to anymore politicians. or the women's march. donate to local mask blocs. donate to local mutual aid orgs. donate to abortion funds. the dems raised $1 billion for this campaign & it's all gone now. put your $ where it's truly needed.
